Interesting Toden Arakara photo

Due to the low level lighting and shallow depth of field, this image looks very much like a model photo.  If it weren't for the two folks in the crosswalk, it would be an even tougher call, although the car interiors, overhead wires, and detailed street painting would give it away.

These are very fun, we have a few threads here with some other fun videos using tilt shift. Basically it's sekective depth of field to take real life shots that are from a distance and you have depth of field focus all the way thru the shot and it limits the focus to the middle part of the depth like you get on a lot of closeup model shots where you have only the center horizontal area of shot in focus (Ie narrow depth of field.)

The opposite is the use of hyper focal shots on model where you take multiple shots of a model at all the various depths of fields you can get in the shot. Then you run the shots thru a program that choose the best shot focus for each pixel of the shot. Turns model shots into real life pictures. Also new total focus digital camera now can get total depth of field in a shot that requires post processing where you can mess with the focus on each area of the photo!

These techniques play with our mind's eye where when it sees only part of the shot really in focus from a more pulled back shot our mind says model as our experience with most model shots have that appearance where as if most all the shot is in the depth of field in focus and pulled back shot our mind says real life from those experiences. Love hour our mind fills in details like this and how you can use it to your advantage!

Cheers

Maybe I should change my userid to "mind's eye"!
