yakumo381
Anyone know what this old EMU is that I photographed today at the JRW works next to Hatabu Station? Was next to scrapping area so may not be around for much longer? 1 Link to comment
yakumo381
Is it one of these or something similar? http://ww1.tiki.ne.jp/~y-masuda/sayonara-mc42001.htm Link to comment
kvp
Actually that looks like an original jgr/jnr/jre/jrw kumoha 12. I tought all of them were scrapped years ago. If im right that is actually a rare historic car. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KuMoHa_12 Link to comment
kvp
Specifically it's this one: http://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ファイル:JNR_EMU_kumoha11117.jpg Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
It's a kumoha 11 that's been kept there at the Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Depot since it was retired in 1976 from the Kabe Line in Hiroshima Pref. 1 Link to comment
E6系
Hello Mr kvp is correct. It looks like クモハ12形 11217. Formerly 31031. It was originally Moha 11 form. Later, it was remodelled to Moha 12 form and the new number 12020 was assigned. It is difficult to read the number as the paint has not weathered evenly. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%BD%E9%89%8431%E7%B3%BB%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A Link to comment
miyakoji
It's a kumoha 11 that's been kept there at the Shimonoseki General Rolling Stock Depot since it was retired in 1976 from the Kabe Line in Hiroshima Pref. Did they use it for something, or did they have some other plan for it? Of course, soon they'll be able to display it in Kyoto, but I don't think they had that in mind in 1976 . It'll need some sandblasting, though :) Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
The same facility also has kumoha 42001, ex-Onoda Line, which is in much better condition- I rode it once back in 2003, right before it was retired. I dunno what their plan is for kumoha 11, though it would be nice if it was sent to Kyoto and cosmetically restored. Link to comment
Welshbloke
I wonder if they use it as a depot shunter?More than a few elderly units have been protected from the cutting torch around the world by a manager's realisation that they could offer it that legitimate (in the eyes of the accountants) job. yakumo381
Sorry don't have a picture but are these both similar or of the same agae as the old EMU that is on a plinth under a canopy just inside the main entrance to Suita depot? Link to comment
kvp
From the sat image, that looks like a 52 series streamlined unit, which is one generation newer. (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/国鉄52系電車) Link to comment
