  1. Based on newly found pictures and excavations in the Shinagawa area, a short NHK-produced CG video of the first railway in Japan which ran between Shinbashi and Yokohama. Actual simulated run begins at 2:18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ashrrlMXH2M
  2. Jiji Press report on the press preview/track connection ceremony at Sotetsu's new station that connects the new Sotetsu Line extension to Shin-Yokohama/Hiyoshi with the JR Freight Line via a junction just past the platforms. Scheduled to be operational/open 11/30 this year, presumably in conjunction with the autumn timetable revision.
  3. JR East, in commemoration with the 156th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port, is running a special train using the 651 series on May 30th from Mito to Ishikawacho Station in Yokohama and return. The train will use the Ueno-Tokyo Line and traverse the normally freight-only Takashima freight line between Tsurumi and Sakuragicho. It'll be interesting to see where the 651 series trainset will be stabled after dropping off its passengers at Ishikawacho Station before its return trip to Mito (Negishi Station sidings?)   4. Yesterday a joint statement of four railways was issued announcing the intention of starting reserved seat service using the to-be-delivered Seibu 40000 series. Starting from Spring 2017, this service will operate weekends and holidays between Chichibu and Yokohama Chukagai (for sightseers), and weekdays, on a Seibu Ikebukuro Line-Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line routing (for commuters).   5. Starting today, and through Sept. 11, a special exhibition of Hara Nobutaro's massive collection of model trains will be held, including 1000 pieces of previously unexhibited HO gauge stock. Location is the Pacifico Yokohama convention center in the Minato Mirai area.
