As usual, the packing is just superb... the boxes are well protected and stay where they are throughout shipping, thanks to those thick cardbox spacers!

See how nicely packed it is?

First the Kiha-150... I have yet to have a Kiha 150, and best yet one with 2 different colour schemes... Now we can all couple with the Kiha-40s and Kiha-143s! Time to hunt for a Kiha-54 to complete the collection...

I finally succumbed and bought a model of the ugly sister. I love it. I first saw this train in the Maglev museum. I thought it must be a concept train. It was just so awful looking. But I've come to develop a certain fascination with it.

That's funny, I actually really like the 300 series unironically. Hearing so many opinions on the other side makes me wonder why I feel so differrent about it! I'll have to give it some thought and post it in the "What's your favourite shinkansen" thread in the Japanese prototype sub-forum...

I don't think the 300 is particularly ugly.  Just dated in design.  I've ridden my fair share of them.

I've had two packages from Rail-Gallery Rokko recently containing:

image.thumb.png.72ebba2bcfb390909c3a1d6d6375338f.png

Sorry I don't have any pre-opening pictures of the parcels!

One parcel contained the 103 and Family Mart Konbini. The JR 103 Series in that style is one of my favourite trains, as I rode it a few times in Japan, and I have driven it a lot in Train Simulator.

The other parcel contained the EF210, DF200, Koki + containers and Takis you see (effectively my JR Freight starter set I guess!)

These were delivered by DHL and interestingly, for the parcel which contained the 103 + family mart, for some reason I did not have to pay any customs fee (I live in the UK) which seemed strange, is there a lower limit to the parcel value for which customs fees do not apply? Or was I extremely lucky? I understood that with DHL you would always get charged the customs fee which there was a chance you could avoid with other delivery methods?

Also it gets mentioned a lot here anyway but I also have to say Rail-Gallery Rokko are second-to-none in customer service.

Lucky me! Exhibit I landed today: the 98735 JNR goods express train set. Haven’t had it running yet, this weekend will be a good bet for it though!

Nice try Jeff! Seriously though, I could relocate some of my Kato stock into that casket. Or leave it as it is and purchase something else. If I do buy more freight stock, I'd love to have either A.) bogie goods wagons like the WaKi 1000 and WaMuFu 100 that could run with that set, or B.) some steam-era flat deck wagons. Nobody makes any appropriate steam-era flat decks RTR so far as I'm aware. If someone did then my wallet might magically open up...😄

Currently though I'm eyeballing another JR West 103 series set from Tomix, the new Osaka Loop Line version in orange. Although the eight-car limited edition looks pretty tempting, I'm leaning towards the four-car standard edition. It's more practical both in cost and on my small UniTrack setups, and would be the same length as my previous Nara Line 103 series which I absolutely love.

Some items received in the last month or so.

Several Tomix/Tomytec items. I really like the Tarumi Railway Plarail Wrap car. I have been waiting for Tomytec to do a road/rail truck, and they obliged with 2 sets in different color schemes. I recognized one or two, or maybe all of the HND buses, and who doesn't want more buses?

Some more cardstock kits. The Sankei's are a favorite and I look forward to completing one of the Plum kits. The Plum monorail is intended to be a display item. I have a thing for monorails.

Finally, a tool that looked useful - a slide tool for sanding stock to various angles precisely. This was a little expensive for what it is. I hope I get some use out of it.

Thanks Keith! Much like the old sand-it, but this is nice being all milled aluminum!

I know what I’m making at work later.  Although I’m thinking it would be better to pivot the guide and slot an arc in the base.

I like the notch track to run the sanding block in of the Japanese one. I may talk to my metal worker friend for a little Tim on his mill…

The sliding part of this tool is made out of a high density plastic - maybe Delrin/Acetal. This makes it slide nicely. If I was making this tool, I might anodize the aluminum pieces. If I am ever back in the office/factory, I might ask the guys in our machine shop to anodize the aluminum parts for me.

Ohh that’s great. Yes anodized surface would give better grip for the item being sanded to not slide around. nice to work around a shop like that!

Always can glue down a piece fo like 800 sandpaper, works great in situations like that. I’ve got a hunk of hdpe left over from a saw fence, may try to make one using some waxed hardwood for the runner. Probably 98% of the time I’m sanding off 90 degree ends.
