Received—via DHL, who never seem to add any kind of duties—the housing that I need, to flesh out the Japanese village area.

I just finished assembling my contemporary apartment building. I still have another one the same color as your to do sometime. They're constructed quite unusually for a Tomytec building and are particularly difficult to add lights too. But I think they're worth it.

I have two of these kits left over. Each one makes a car storage unit for two cars. Anyone who wants them, can have them for cost of postage and packaging.

Yes, I suppose that we more or less agree that taxes can be used for the common good.

No worries.  We have plenty of taxes.  Just no duty on model railroads and accessories (or on "toys" in general).

I will let this here for you to peruse: https://www.crfb.org/blogs/us-highest-taxed-nation-world

Tax in the US is noticeably less than in "European social democracies". I think that, in general, most of European states revenues come from VAT, but I would need to research this more. Iirc it's the case in France.

Anyway, all this goes way beyond the scope of the forum and flirts with the political as we are also talking about what we accept as social return against higher tax rates (welfare systems, infrastructure, etc.).

My GreenMax electric substation kit just arrived. This is thanks to @bill937ca for sending me the link. This must be my first GM kit. I was delightfully surprised to find that it's completely unpainted. It's gonna be like getting back to my old Airfix days!

Two of my parcels arrived today - AmiAmi preorder and a small package from Hobby Search. VAT had to be paid for both of them 😭

Greenmax 4712 Tie Tamper Senken Kogyo - my layout is still under construction and ties must be tampered on new tracks 🙂 Senken Kogyo was taking part in Sanriku Railway restoration after 2011 earthquake so it's kinda prototypical as well.

Tomix 98089 KiHa 100 in prototypical livery - I was looking for some KiHa 100 cars for quite a long time, finally have some in the typical white-green livery, although with the black fronts they had in the beginning. Got two sets, one is opened and numbers are transferred, the other is kept sealed for possible sale because (don't ask how) I ordered a third set by mistake 🤦‍♀️

Also got a Casco box for KiHa 100 cars as all the other boxes I've got are unsuitable for such short trains as KiHa 100 is. Some cutter-modifications had to be done but the trains now fit snugly. Empty spaces reserved for another package that is on the way.

P.S. Seems that Hobby Search is still using cats as a filler. Smaller box means smaller cat. At least she is of different color than the one in the previous order so I'm not gonna confuse them.

This is also due to the intermediate cab ends having no light boards fitted. So actually made a lot of sense before Kato realised customers wanted to run the sets individually.

I think its rather a way of saving money and effort... with this you'll have destination board, head and tail lights wether you use a 7 or 11 car consist. I guess the cars 8 and 9 in the add-on have neither of those.

Double answer, was 2 minutes too slow 😉. Anyways, seems to be correct then.

Best feeling, going for an auction with a really good price then see the time tick away without anyone bidding to even increase the price. Then time's off and you've made a great deal.

My latest purchases ... the Sobu and Yamanote E231's both came from RG Rokko.  My first non-Amazon purchases from Japan, excellent packaging and delivered to the UK in three days via DHL.  Import duty payment process painless, a great buying experience.

Couldn't resist the Saphir Odoriko, that came from Amazon a couple of weeks ago 🙂

Finally managed to pick up the Tomix 92981 N700-8000 and it’s a really good looking Shinkansen.

Not sure why I originally hated on the Tomix coupling system either, in person the coupling system is quite impressive actually 👍 I’m too much of a Kato fan boy! 😆

So my HobbySearch package finally arrived today! And it seems I was lucky, it arrived without a customs fee. So who knows what it really depends on, so far my DHL delivery last year was the only one that got charged. Normal Japan Post packages all seem to slip past.

As for the contents, it's a bunch of track that I needed for my desk shelf layout and 2 pairs of Kato pantographs for my Shorty trains.

Some blue KoKis. My first order from RG Rokko. Very nice packaging. Well padded with the invoice wrapped in a little plastic sleeve, and a gift pen. They also seem to have a lot of stock that no one else has. I like this store.
