Keihan Ōtsu Lines model trains

I'm still not sure why there wasn't a "retail" version of the first release like the last Tetsudo Musume set (exclusive version had a nicer box)

Given that it was one of the earlier Keihan Otsusen models to be made by Tomytec and there was no real gauge on their popularity sales wise the Keihan Railway may have stipulated that it was to be an exclusive set to ensure that the stock sold out, since then though the Keihan Otsusen models have become fairly popular, especially when we see the large variety of models they have produced for such a small railway.

that makes sense I guess, hopefully demand for the new release will spur them to re-release the original set to the general public

Hmmm... may not be a bad idea to do some Otsu Lines this weekend if the snow isn't gone yet. It's a nice change from the usual landscape.

in case anyone is interested ... someone has put an assembled (and powered) Green Max Keihan 500 Series set on Yahoo JP ... looks nicely done to boot

Auction: http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k240816897

Note: For those unfamiliar with the GreenMax Keihan Otsu car kits ... they are oversized when compared to the TomyTec versions ... most noticeable in their width, but also in their height

here is an example using the 350 form from the same kit

I think I will bide my time until Tomytec or someone else decides to produce a model of the 500 Series, looking at the photos there is at least 6 inches or more in width and height in real life when compared against the Tomytec models.

I have been toying with the idea of kitbashing a 260 Series from some Tomytec bodies as I have a spare 350 Series body at hand, I might see if I can pick up a cheap 600 Series Batch 1 and another 350 Series from Mandrake when I go over in April as raw materials for the conversion, someone has already done a set in Express Livery and it looks pretty impressive.

yes they are disappointingly oversized ... but I doubt that TomyTec will ever release the 500 series as there were only ever 6 of them (3 trains) and they only wore one paint job.

edit: I am reminded that they *did* release the stand-alone 350 Series car #351 (tho cars #351-355 had cabs on both ends (356-361 were single ended like the 500, 600, and 700 series))

Would love to be proven wrong in this regard, but until that day, there are only built-ups like this one.

Regardless, thought I would still let folks here know in case they are interested.

here is another size comparison using the 2011 K-On! 600 series cars showing the differences between the TomyTec, Platz/GreenMax, and B Shorty versions: http://redbelt.blog98.fc2.com/blog-entry-1635.html

I will give one thing to the Platz/Greenmax version in that it does possess a higher level of detail especially when you look at the roof.

Well, that's unfortunate. The 700 in 80 type livery is the only 700 that has a different colour skirts, so we can already guess where this went wrong.

It should be a rather quick fix to paint the skirt in the correct colour, but it's still disappointing.

Even though I'll probably get one of them for my collection. I found this one to be really good looking in person.

The new 700 Tomytec has made a mistake looking at the new photos. The skirts are white when they should be grey.

well, at least it did once exist this way ... which is probably one of the photos the factory in China used

Looks like it was half way though completion. Only 1 car and not 2. Hence the white shirt.

Even the stock photos on the Tomytec box are grey.

As said earlier. The skirt can be painted. I have Kiha 125 and NDC shirts to paint also. So might as well buy the gear I need to do that and do them all at once.

seen on twitter last night / this AM ...

which basically says we can expect to see the following this fall:

700 Series Keihan Otsu Train in 80 Series colors (post directly above)

700 Series in normal Keihan 2-tone green

600 Series in Hibike Euphonium colors (619-620)

5000 Series (you'll have to buy 2 sets for a whole train (I think))

13000 Series (you'll have to buy 2 sets for a whole train (I think))

181+182 - Not sure what this is about

80 Series (not really sure what this is meaning (unless it's the single-unit version of the already released 80 series model)

corrections welcome

Most of these have come true. So I can live in hope a normal 700 is not far away. :) Edited by cteno4

I was joking of course ... but that photo is why (or possibly why) we have an incorrect model.  Happened all the time when I was manufacturing things in the PRC ...

I knew you were joking.  And yes I'd assume you'd be correct with the modelers using an old photo for the colouring.  Luckily it is an easier enough fix for me.  But others may not have the ability or know how to fix.

For now guidelines have not changed. If it is not your ur photo and it has an embed system provided by the other site and works with the forum then cool, otherwise a link. Getting permission does not change things as the guideline was set because we did not want to keep track of all this. If and when things change we will let folks know we are discussing it.
