Keihan Ōtsu Lines model trains

80 series finally being sold through normal sales CONFIRMED: http://www.1999.co.jp/10415912

My wallet is going to hate me if the 700 rumours also turn out to be true. On the other hand, with standard 80 and 700 types models my collection will be about finished. The Hibike Euphonium one may also be interesting, but I already have too many 'painted trains' of this line.

This is not *completely* accurate.

The previously released version is the final form which included Air Conditioning system on the roof.  This version is the old non-airconditioned version.

But what's even MORE important to those of us with the previous release who'll be getting this one too is this: TM-TR05 ... power + trailer for the Keihan 80 Series trams.

I really hope they do a re release of the 80 Series with the air conditioners as they are getting harder to find and are far from cheap. With the release of this model I have decided to expand my Keihan Keishin fleet and will be running a mix of trains from the mid 1980's up until current times on a layout I am planning to build soon, this also means that I have now fallen victim to the dreaded Tomytecitus as well.

I decided already long ago that I only want Keihan Keishin and Ishiyama-Sakamoto Line trains from the '90s and onwards, which in my case means that I probably won't be getting the non-air-conditioned version. I just don't understand why they don't produce more 80 series with air-conditioning, as I'm sure they'll be popular as every other trains of these lines.

For me the cutoff point is 1984 as the 600 Series were being introduced into service and 80 Series without air conditioners were still running on the line, the 80 Series didn't have the air conditioners fitted to them until 1989 so it's fine to be running them with any of the 600 Class variants.

I have no idea why they decided not to release the Keihan exclusive set to the general public ... they did that with the most recent Tetsudo Musume (700 series) release -- the exclusive version has a nicer box but is otherwise the same model

maybe we'll see one in the next round

Yeah, but like that I can keep expanding my focus. Now I remember what exactly I wanted to focus on: the trains that ran on these lines from 1997 and onwards. That means I can get the 80 and 350 types that ran on the Keishin Line until October that year, but also the 500, 600, 700 and 800 series that have been running since then.

I was originally going to go for a contemporary fleet with just the two 800 Series to run the line, however with the release of the 80 Series my plan took a radical turn and I have decided to cover trains from the 600v and 1500v eras, I have to admit I do have a bit of a thing for the 600 Series and it gives me an excuse to run them.

I built a set of the GreenMax 500 series w/help of a friend and while slightly oversized, it does fit in nicely with the 600s, 700s, 800s, and 80 (and the 60 series for good measure)

but many companies have heritage fleets at this point so it is easy to pretend that older models were preserved and up'd to 1500vDC

So I have finally succumbed to Tomytecitus and have purchased some older Keishin stock, I went onto JAUCE and

got the Tomytec Railway Collection Series 17 350 Series for ¥1800 and the full 600 series for ¥1500 buy it now prices, they are in new condition and I am pretty happy with my purchase.

Looks like it won't go through R140 with the Arnold coupler MicroAce ships the model with, but that it will with body mounted TN couplers, although obviously still looking damn ugly going through such narrow curves. Also, it doesn't seem to like S-curves at R140.

Somewhat late to the game here - mine kind of goes through R140 curves with the Arnold coupler but it's not real happy. R177 no problem. The power car will go round 103mm curves with the odd alarming noise but not something I intend to do again. Anyway I've at least got a straight stretch of on-street running for it:

I am only collecting those units that have the old Keihan logo on them as I want stock that predates the Tozai Line opening, that said if anyone has any information on the Beer Trains and other festive trains that use the 600 Series and 700 Series on special services to Shinomiya I might be tempted to expand the fleet some more.

I'm just glad that they didn't bring it out in it's original single car format.

I wouldn't mind having that one released in addition to the others

Found some interesting shots of the depot at Shinomiya pre Tozai Line and after, it also gives me a bit of a hint as to what stock has run the charter trains post 1997.
