These were delivered in several generations over about 14(!) years, counting from the test formation built by Kawasaki in September 1983 to the single 6th generation formation built by Kinki in August 1997. These two were the end cars of the last 4th generation formation, built by Nippon Sharyo, in June 1992. Presumably loading gauge isn't an issue. Look at all the places the Keio 5000s have gotten to, they were originally 1372mm, now they're all 1067mm or 1435mm. 1 Link to comment

kvp Posted February 22, 2015 Share Posted February 22, 2015 Since the cars were running on the pre WWII Ginza line, the loading gauge is roughly the same (like the old Hakone Tozan cars) and while the Toei 01 series are 3rd rail units, the voltage is the same 600V, thanks to both lines being rather old. So apart from a bogie swap and a new pantograph, they are fully compatible. Also the 600V is low enough that no serious isolation or modifications are needed on the roof, just a high voltage traction cable coming down at the car's end. Link to comment

A few weeks ago the 1002 (Marunouchi line colours) went out of service because of a lack of finances. Now only the 1001 remains in Ginza line colours. Hitachi Dentetsu had a big fleet of these ex-2000 types in service, of which, Choshi bought two when Hitachi Dentetsu went bust. 2 Link to comment

I remember the first time I came to Japan in 1993, they seemed pretty modern, especially with the nifty station indicators above the doors. 22 years on they do look a bit tired, especially compared with the replacements, which are LED-lit with the latest LCD displays. Anyway, all the more excuse to run my cut-down Kato 01 set on my layout, which is (according to the fanciful backstory) home to all kinds of older stock the original operators no longer wanted. I need this in my life! I wonder if Kumaden will change the livery. Surely, they will remove the logos of Tokyo Metro, but will the simple '90s black/orange striping remain? One part of me hopes it will remain in the Ginza Line livery and the other part hopes for an original repaint. Even putting the basic data side-by side, they are not quite alike. That must have been a lot of investing in parts, as the EFwings can only be obtained from the Tomytec Kumamon train set, as well as the intricate details on the roofs, the underbody equipment, doorsteps, and the filigrane mirrors. A bit of a steep price, but a LOT of time and effort went into this. Link to comment
