Just curious of the trains and passenger cars they use for these trains.  I have the Kato D51 498 and 6 car series 12 blue passenger cars already on pre-order.

There is also the C61 20.

To me it look like they use a DD51 from pics for the DL.  But any specfic DD51?

There is a EL listed but no pics of any.  And specific EL that they use?  Looks like a modern bo-bo-bo design.  But it just could be a visual representation on the brochure.

Also look like the second lot of passenger cars are brown.  Anyone know that types they are and how they consist them? Oha 47s and Suhafu 42s?

A little bit more research into available models tell me the EL is a EF64-1000 numbers EF-1001 in brown colour.

And the brown coaches are Takasaki Train Centre cars.  Suhafu 42-2234, Oha47-2261, Oha 47-2246, Ohani 36-11, Oha 47-2266, Suhafu 32-2357, Suhafu42-2173.

This info came from a Tomix model listing, so info could be wrong or outdated for modern era running.

According to Japanese Wikipedia JR East's three DD51's are 842, 888 and 895.  842 is the loco used on the Imperial train and I have seen photos of it hauling other special trains.

Great, thanks for the info.  Many DD51s including the imperial verson in yahoo jp.  Couple of -800s and warn region versions.

The was/is also a EF65-500 numbers EF65-501 that is the blue and cream colour scheme that also pulls along the coaches.

Thanks.  So it is the EF65-501 I posted about earlier.  Plus the EF64-37.  You can already buy the EF65-501 from Kato.  It is the old loco from the 70s that pulled the Sakura Series 14 blue coahes from Tokyo to Nagasaki.

So you can get:-

EF65-501 from Kato or Tomix

DD51 either from Kato or Tomix

D51 498 from Kato

C61 20 from Tomix

Series 12 Blue coaches from Kato or Tomix

Brown coaches from Tomix

I plan to get the for locos and both coaches sets.  Having 4 pulling locos adds variety.  Will get Kato for most, and Tomix for where Kato in unavailable.  Which would be the C61 and Brown coaches.  Already have the Kato D51 and blue coaches on pre-order.

These trains run from Takasaki to Sakamoto and Takisaki to where?  I cannot figure out the second running station.  Maybe Minakami?

On this page: http://www.jreast.co.jp/railway/ (under 鉄道に関するお知らせ) you can view .pdf's seasonal specials and their destinations. They aren't planned very far in advance, but they usually state what specific rolling stock will be used. It's almost the same as these fancy posters, but a bit more compiled and easier to read.

Locating PDFs and timetables isn't a problem.  Reading japanese is.  I do notice there is a C61+DE10 combo running soon.  But that is only because that into is in english.

If you're talking about the C61 + DE10 combo, that is the units based in the Takasaki area. My guess is that JR East plans a number of excursions of C61 20 this year.
