Going Japanese!!!

Did a bit of work at the weekend,it was all looking a little grey so I put a bit of greenery in along the front edge, painted in some roads as I could nt find anything suitable to match up to the Kato station plates, assembled and painted the greenmax crossing and tram stops and generally tidied things up a bit.Got quite a bit of detailing And electrics to do next, mainly the platforms and street lights. My intention is to finish this side of the layout before I start on the other side. Some more buildings on the way for the front of station and the far end.

Paul - interesting thread - and thanks for posting pictures - I'm always keen to see other people's efforts at modelling Japanese models - it's inspirational for my planned 0 gauge layout - to date over got the baseboard and some buildings. plus a big box with the Aoshima o gauge DD51 diesel loco kit. Keep posting - it's an interesting project you have. Regards

Cheers Devon,I ve only been modelling for about five years in total but only got into the Japanese stuff about three years ago, just wanted to do something a bit diferent.I do nt really know a lot about Japanese trains or the Japanese train system and most of the trains and buildings I buy because I like the look of them. Most of what I ve learnt is down to the people on here, there s some really nice knowledgeable guys on here who are really happy to pass on that knowledge.

Would love to see some pics of yours at some point mate,

Regards

Paul

statio area almost complete with shops etc including the two ends, just some detailing to finish off, shop signs, pathway etc.

Also two new additions to the fleet,a 103 series and a 113-2000, nothing special but will fill two of the three extra sidings I put in.The third siding will be taken up with an ef510-500 (Kato 3065-2)pulling the tomix track cleaning car which will be hidden in the engine shed.

JR500,yes they are.Ideal for the back of the layout and I needed some that were 50mm deep for in front of the station so they are perfect.Just ordered katos town decoration set for the shop signs.

Just recieved my order from Nariichi at mtp, the last of the loccos to fill the short sidings. Th ef510-500 is pulling the tomix track cleaning car which I'd hidden in the locco shed.

Good use for the engine house to hide the cleaner car! It would be fun to have the cleaner car spread out over like 4 MOW cars!

Back and forth trolley board.

Thanks to Jeff who found this back and forth trolley board.I could nt loop the tram around from the town to the station area so was struggling to find a point to point unit until Jeff showed me this.£35 inc delivery from Iron penguin electronics in Georgia,USA.

Easy to install and does the job perfectly, wires in line through transformer and two diodes to solder in,simple.

Here you go

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111788961448?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Simple timer reversing circuit with isolated end tracks with diodes. It's a robust system that does not rely on any sensors, just the time set and the speed of the tram. The track at the end where the tram is to stop has one rail isolated (with a gap or insulated rail joiner) that is connected to the middle section via a diode. So when the tram runs on it (moving towards the end) it hits the dead rail (due to the direction of the diode allowing current to the isolated end rail when the current direction is set to running away from the end. Then after the timer reverses the current the end rail can get current now thru the diode and the tram runs back out towards the other end. Reverse happens at the other end. So you just set the timer on the board to the travel time that you have set with the tram speed (on an external throttle) plus the time you want it to sit at the end.

Btw you can replace the timer/reversing circuit with just an dpdt switch and throw it when you want the tram to start off to the other end then throw it again once at the other end and you are ready to make it return.

Cheers

Jeff

Managed to get the rest of the buildings for the station area off eBay for a real good price(a guy was dismantling his layout) all in boxes and in very good condition.I ve spent the last few weeks fitting lights in the buildings, cars with lights and street lights.I ve still got three buildings to finish off and seven street lights to wire up,all up the far end.I d forgotten just how fiddly and time consuming wiring is.post-2329-0-03930700-1458591364_thumb.jpegpost-2329-0-84249700-1458591382_thumb.jpegpost-2329-0-10197100-1458591410_thumb.jpeg

Awesome!  Didn't know you were adding lighting also.

I've probably forgotten.  But is there anything under the overhead station?  Or just empty space?

Blobby,cheers mate

Katoftw, thanks for the comment, there s nothing under the station base but I ve got the kato station road plates running full length and there are buildings all the way along it of one form or another.the empty space is used to hide some of the wiring.

I m hoping to finish the lighting and wiring by the weekend.

Really nice job there Paul! Thanks for sharing!

The lights really did bring up the city to life! But I think you might need some lights too in the stations...

Thanks jr500,the station platforms and engine sheds are next and I m also going to see if I can find some yard lights,if not I ll use something suitable. If you look closely I ve done the very rear platform but not the other three.I have all the accessories kits etc for the platforms but just have nt got around to do it yet.I m hoping that by the end of the weekend all the lighting will be done and then the platforms will be done next week. Then I have about 350 figures to glue! Wish me luck

Thanks to you all for the comments.
