Trains in anime/manga

"Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta" episode 6

attachicon.gifLeopold 1.jpgattachicon.gifLeopold.jpg

Kotoha Isone summons a Krupp 28-cm-Kanone 5 (E).

Not a train but hey, it's on rails!

Hi.

Leopold in a anime, that sounds quite interesting.

After checking the anime's synopsis, I still could not imagine how Leopold came along.

Just for curiosity, is there any anime/manga where Gustav/Dora appear? That would be epic.

Pictures of a CAN.DO Leopold (1:144).

It came already painted and assembled.

Cheers,

In whispers of my heart we have a Keio 5000 series with wrong 2-panel doors (like the 6000 series).

@nxcale No idea, I've never seen Gustav/Dora in any anime.

Thanks for posting those Flying Witch screen caps.  Although trains don’t appear after the first episode, I still enjoyed the show’s character designs and peaceful slice-of-life atmosphere.
J.C. Staff also put a lot of effort into depicting the setting (a suburb of Hirosaki) in an accurate manner.

Anyway, I’d like to draw your attention to episode 6 of Joker Game, which takes place on board the Manchurian Railway Asia Express.  I’m glad to say that Production I.G. did the train justice.

As with the 701 series from Flying Witch, the Asia Express has been released by Micro Ace in the past.  I'd love to own it one day.

Girls und Panzer der Film

features an Imperial Japanese Army Railway Regiment K2 steam locomotive. It serves as the Chi-Ha-Tan Academy's dedicated land transport.

It's quite amazing how this little 600mm gauge locomotive is able to pull a train with 22 tanks and passenger cars from Chiba to Hokkaido. :toothy12:

Also, the K2's wheel arrangement changes from 0-10-0 to 0-8-0.

In Studio Ghibli's "Ocean Waves / I can hear the sea" there is a JR East 201 series  at Kichijōji Station on the Chuo Main Line (Rapid Service).

This featured a train I can't identify at all. Flying Witch is set in Aomori but I have no idea where to put this kind of EMU?

It might be a 7000 series of the third-sector Konan Railway wich is located in Aoimori Prefecture.

They are former Tokyu 7000 series and runs in 2-car sets.

Chuo Line (Rapid) E233 Series at Shinjuku Station

It's pretty rare to have JR actually named in anime.

From Non non biyori. anyone knows what train is this?

Looks like a former Miki Railway MiKi 300 type. This company closed in 2007 and all three railbuses (MiKi 300-103 to MiKi 300-105) were transferred to Hitachinaka Kaihin Railway (No.300-103), Hōjō Railway (No.104), and the Tarumi Railway (No.105). Hōjō Railway repainted their acquisition in 2012 in their own 'Flower' livery, so by my guess, the line depicted here is the Tarumi Railway, as the Hitachinaka Kaihin Railway does not have this kind of landscape.

All reported real-world locations from that show are located in Saitama.

The private railways closest to those locations are Chichibu Railway and Joshin Dentetsu. None of which has railbuses like this.

Does the bus shown in the anime any help or it's (maybe intentionally) too generic?

There's an old-looking railcar/railbus in Spirited Away that I wonder could someone identify?

It's good that at least Yale was not used. Man, I hate the Yale transcription. It should burn and be forgotten.

I feel the same about Yale for Korean (as well as Revised, and Kontsevich, and... well basically anything that isn't McCune-Reischauer!)
