NHK World running a show called Train Cruise

On a related note, the Cool Japan re-run that's airing in the next 24 hours (see below) is about station buildings.  I don't think it'll have any significant railway content, but Japan's stations are interesting, for me the food shops and book stores in particular :).

Thanks Lee, but actually I've just watched it, and I'd seen it before although I didn't remember :). Maybe some other board members would be interested.

Although it was strictly about the stations, no train content, it's still a good show overall. The shops in Kichijoji Station are really quite something.

This was a pretty good episode. The restaurant shown about halfway through the show is Mifuji Shokudo. It's right outside Keihan's Zezehommachi Station. Not so sure about the funazushi shown later :grin.

Anyone got the Lake Biwa episode ready to view yet?

Not yet, just copying from my satellite to my PC, need to trim it down and then the_weird_one will convert and upload (hopefully), but that will be tomorrow at the earliest I would think.

Thank you for sharing.

I wished they slowed down on the Keihan line train content a little to show us a bit more.  My son love the bit when the 800 rolled onto the road.

I normally record Great Nature on NHK World, but this week, they moved things around in the schedule and I ended up recording Seasoning the Seasons instead. Turns out that this week's episode of Seasoning the Seasons, was about Japan's tramways... is this a programme that anyone on here (by that I mean these forums in general) would be interested in seeing?

Just noticed, the actual title is "Japan's Historic Tramways", don't know if that makes any difference. I'll try and find a way to upload it somewhere. the_weird_one does the Train Cruise episodes, but I don't want to hassle him for every show I find. Will update when I find somewhere to upload it.

Okay, I think this might be right... maybe. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7LFvItVrwd0dFJrSEZwNjBscTA/view?usp=sharing

They must do something with the video, because when I test the link, it says something about the video not being processed, but it will allow you to download it. Maybe you can watch it from there too when they've processed it?? The video is 1280x720 and is 633MB.

I just saw that in 10 minutes the program (I presume a repeat of one of those three episodes) will air.

You can watch it live here: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/w/movie/

I know its a older post, but you just made my day. I didn't knew that there is a live channel in English about Japanese culture and Japanese news. Thanks a bunch!!!

Just watched it in my browser, didn't have to download it so the processing must have worked. Great picture quality, and a really interesting episode; I would say almost better than Train Cruise itself!

Thanks very much for uploading, top marks!

Just find this about a few minutes on my facebook :

Today, we explore the secrets behind the Shinkansen, the world's ultimate railway system. Our expert guest is Yoshihiro Akiyama, an engineer who helped design Shinkansen lines in many parts of Japan.
