first images of JR Kyushu's DF200 for luxury train

The artist's renderings show it in a maroon color, so I guess this is just a primer coat.  As Bikkuri mentioned, it has to be lighter than a freight-use JRF DF200, I'll be interested to see where the weight savings come from.  Or do these have cement weights that can just be removed?

I think the artist rendering was down in brown just for the sake of visibility. This looks like solid paint - the reflection on the roof looks too polished to be primer. I would suppose that the loco has been painted and now is being taken to Kyushu to be vinyled (in the best Eichi Mitooka style...).

 

Incidentally, is this Hyogo? If it is, isn't this the Wadamisaki line? Wasn't it supposed to be closed?

I thought this was going to be a former JR Freight loco modified for JR Kyushu's use.  Is this a new build?

 

The Wadamisaki Line still operates.  It has only Wadamisaki Station, 2.7km down from Hyogo.

Are they going to do this at one of JR Freight's facilities in the Osaka area or will it be towed "dead in consist" all the way to Shimonoseki for set up before being turned over to JR Kyushu?

The black is a wrapping to protect the coat underneath.  Apparently the locomotive is being hauled to Oita Rolling Stock Center.

Logic and commercial practice dictates that it's up to the owner to set up the locomotive at their own premises. Ergo, Hakata/Fukuoka... should have read BB's answer before writing... :lipssealed:

Thanks. I read sometime ago that they wanted to close the line to force local folks to use a neighbouring Metro line which was under-performing. It seems that this, so far, has not happened.

I don't think a diesel locomotive will be getting pantographs. :P Although, there is some JR East hybrid-DMU planned with pantographs, but I can't find it back.

Yeah, I seem to remember this, it's the luxury train that JR East is going to introduce isn't it?  Instead of using a locomotive, it will be a diesel/electric multiple unit.

I don't know about any JR East luxury train (don't they already have the Twilight Express and Cassiopeia?), but that DMU was meant for local passenger service as a replacement for the current DMU's. It could have been JR Central too though, I'm not entirely sure.

Arriving at Nishi Oita Station yesterday:

Just before somebody else posts it. I think the design of the DF200-7001 is a bit inspired by this car. Just a little bit, mind you.

I like the combination with that EF66! I'm still amazed at the fact that Japanese locos these days still have the same basic shape as the EF66, even the DF200 does.

It looks redder than the Nagomi, although that could be the camera/lighting.  It's an interesting color though. I want to see it outdoors in the sun and fully unwrapped.

the way the windows are taped up or tinted one has to wonder if it's going to be shipped abroad or is the locomotive that is used along with the DD series locomotives during earthquakes. When the electrical power is secured.
