bill937ca
JRF has recently added PDF versions of the JRF container timetables. Some knowledge of Japanese is needed to read these. An example for the Kanto region. http://www.jrfreight.co.jp/common/pdf/time/2013kanto.pdf This is the JRF index page. http://www.jrfreight.co.jp/transport/area/index.html Under each map is a grey box which brings up the PDF for that region when clicked. 1 Link to comment
miyakoji
Very interesting Bill, I've often wondered about the details of freight operations. To me, one of the most interesting aspects of the maps is the locations where JRF doesn't go. For example, I would have expected some service south of Osaka. When reading about a station or line on Wikipedia, often there's some note about when freight operations were discontinued. It would be interesting to see a map of how freight service was cut back over the years. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
JRF pretty much concentrates their services on the big trunk lines, and will only run trains on secondary lines if the customer is big enough (say an oil firm). Some of those former freight rail services were converted to "off rail stations"- basically container stations with truck haulage only. Link to comment
