A few pictures from a Club Running Night

The other day a couple of us ventured down to our local branch of the N Gauge Society, who were having a open day. The club follow a modular approach, so at least there is a fair amount of variety going on. I duly supplied a few members of my Japanese fleet, pictures of which I have added below. The class 103 is John's model.

You will notice that one of the boards has a Japanese flavour to it (not mine I would add)...there seem to be a number of modules which have a Japanese theme. Which is good...  :)

Also included is my latest arrival, which is not Japanese at all, but Dutch. This unit, the 'Koploper' does bear some striking visual similarities with a number of Japanese units though.

Finally I have included a picture of a very interesting little layout. Looks can be deceiving, this actually has a double loop, which manages to completely hide the DD51 and its train…

It looks like you took over the club track that night ;)

What did the other members say about the Japanese prototypes?

Claude is this the same club you're planning on doing the new layout with?

The club layout is beautiful, I assuming it's DCC but what are the dimensions of it and where is it located?

(A club that used to exist near me was given an old firehouse to set up there layout.)

They didn't mind too much as the trains were swapped during the session. Those that are not too familiar with Japanese quality always comment on the levels of detailing and reliability. I tried to select a few interesting sets, certainly the Superview Odoriko turns a few heads, even if it was running without the add-on set - the fiddle yard was too short this time... :(

No this is not the same club as we are planning the new N Gauge layout with. This group is a specialist N Gauge group (an area group for the N gauge Society), which has a membership of about 60. This group takes a modular approach, so in effect you can string as many boards as you like to make a layout, a circuit can be over 30' in length; so at least the trains get a decent work-out. They meet in a local village hall, so by necessity they can only set up and break-down on club nights.

To cater for the varied tastes of the membership, it is partially DCC fitted, the second track from the outside being controlled this way. At present none of my Japanese stock is DCC fitted, however John (on this forum) did supply an E4 Max set which has been 'chipped up'.

Looks like a fun night out. The Koploper is great--I think I may have seen one of those in the Netherlands.

It was a good day.  :)

There is a good chance you would have seen one of these, they're pretty much everywhere out there. We're visiting Mrs Dreyfus' cousin in Rotterdam next month, so chances are I will be sampling one of these as well. ;D

The "Koploper" is fairly common and has been in service for a LONG time. I really love the design of it, but I tend to like MU's with a raised cab in general. I also generally like the NS (Dutch railways) colour scheme.

Same here, and same here.  :)
