forceps clamps

ok here are some inexpensive forceps clamps. i have a bunch of these with pointier tips that are very light clamping for small parts. these are a bit beefier, but have a very strong clamping action and most all of the clamp area to the crossover point is parallel so you can get quite a big area of flat clamping space. at $1.40 shipped ea very good price.

Forceps are a great tool for modeling....I'd be lost without them, the price is great, but does this model of forceps "clamp"?

yep these are the cross-lock forceps that clamp. you squeeze them to open them and they clamp when you let go. Usually these this style/size have pointier tips and much lighter clamping only out near the ends like regular forceps, but these suckers have most all of the tip back to the xover point parallel so the whole area comes together. plus its a bit beefier and all flat inside surface on the clamping ends so you get a pretty good surface area and shapes to use to do a solid clamp. also is pretty strong clamp for this style. i can see these as good to hold parts together up to about 1cm thick when glue is drying and you want good pressure on it. at $1.40 shipped its a steal

 

the daintier ones are great for holding small parts while painting etc. you can pick them up for $2-5 on places like widgetsupply or from the tool guys at the train shows or on ebay. they will have varying degrees of pointedness and lock pressure.

these suckers are a staple for me painting little parts and holding stuff in place.

 

btw check out ebay for forceps, you can get very decent ones for $1 that have nice tips for most all model work. i have a few pairs or really sharp ones for some detail stuff and stickers, but they can get expensive and one drop and the tips are toast. i actually got a pretty damn sharp set for i think $2 last year on ebay. use to be able to pick these up pretty cheap at the train shows form the tool stands, but the prices have really gone up in the last couple of years on them.

 

forceps are like pencils and xacto knives, you can never have enough of them, they always seem to fall into micro black holes when you need them then when you clean up you wonder why you have 2 dozen of them...
