Thanks for posting that.

I think overall Excite does a better job than Google Translate, but it still fails to translate some words (oddly, not the same words Google fails to translate, so using both can be useful) and both seem to just get lost at times.

For example, I ran the Japanese Wikipedia page on Tokyo's outer loop belt line through both.

Google:

Tokyo Outer Ring Line (Yousotokanjousen winter), the Yamanote freight line in the 20km outer zone is a circular railway lines railway trunk line connecting to the five Central Northeast Joban Tokaido Sobu radiation [1] .

...

Railway line was originally planned as a whole section has been opened successively by each company through the construction freeze, etc. (Branch 北袖 Keiyo Rinkai Railway - except between Kisarazu).

...

Outside Tokyo Loop Line, Musashino Line and take a small sum of money surrounding the suburbs of Tokyo route is formed by three lines surrounding the Keiyo Line Tokyo Bay. Currently held by JR East Musashino and Keiyo Line route and do not always match. Route details are as follows.

...

Signal display system Multi-lamp-lamp color, automatic train stop (ATS-shaped S) established

Excite:

[1] whose beltway outside Tokyo (うきょうそ -- it does not んじょう) is a train line of JNR which connect annularly radiation 5 trunk of Tokaido, a center, a northeast, Joban, and the total 武 in the 20 km of outside area of an uptown goods line.

...

Between the whole division was planned as a JNR line, and business is run one by one by each entrepreneur through a construction freeze etc. at the beginning (except for between north sleeve branch - Kisarazu of Keiyo Rinkai Railway).

...

The beltway outside Tokyo is formed in three routes of Musashino Line and the Kogane line which takes a route which encloses the Tokyo suburbs, and Keiyo Line which encloses Tokyo Bay.It is not necessarily in agreement with the route of present Musashino Lineor Keiyo Linewhich JR East Japan holds. The detailed route is as follows.

...

Signal display type A multi-灯式色灯 type and an automatic train stop system (ATS-S form) are installed.

There may simply be no translation for some words or the kanji is not in the dictionary. Place specific terms or railroad lingo might not be in the dictionary unless they are user added. There are  about 1,945 "everyday" or jouyou kanji (about what is required to graduate from grade school).  To read a Japanese newspaper about 1,000 kanji are required.  There are said to be about 50,000 kanji characters in existence, of which a literate Japanese adult will be able to recognize about 3,500. In addition Hiragana symbols are often added.
