(Old) List of Japanese Model Train Online Retailers

Whoopie! And how timely, right after Xmas so now we can order the things people didn't know what we wanted in trains! ;)

Actually until reading about the Tokyo-Rail post, it donned on me that there's more than just HobbySearch and PlazaJapan to order. It's moreless for the novices who join looking for information about retailers than for those of us who already piss away enough of our money on this stuff in which gets us ripped up by "she who must be obeyed"  :P

Thank you for doing this Captain, I wish we can somehow make this a on going topic to help the new, novice and the experienced member(s).

I am wondering if any member has tried ordering from rakuten's international shipping partners, namely

http://www.rakuten.co.jp/hobinavi/

http://www.rakuten.co.jp/tenshodo/

It seems the deals and prices is the best so far but the registration part confuses me.

ホビナビ  of Hobinavi seems to get you a 25% discount on reserve items too!

Don't thank me, thank Shashinka!

A follow-up to to2leo's intriguing post: Rakuten is an umbrella shop, kind of like Amazon. Some of its member shops will ship overseas. More information:

More information about Hobinav, one of the member shops that both sells trains, and sells overseas, is available here:

Found another one:

RailNippon:

http://www.railnippon.com

Website sucks a bit, and they don't offer any discount, but they do offer flat-rate EMS shipping: ¥1200 to Oz and N.A., ¥1500 everywhere else. If you're making a big order, the shipping discount could easily make up for the lack of individual item discounts…

Anyone use these guys?

Kato is opening an online store on June 8th, offering direct sales of their products. I don't know whether they'll ship overseas, but it seems likely.

That's a good news!

I hope they made it in english too...  ;D

Hi,

I tried them, but they don't list whether the items they show are in stock.  I tried two, they didn't have either one.  The refund was quick, though.

Thanks Rob for letting us know.  I guess the best so far is still HWJapan.

We are just getting started, but I have over 20 Japanese trains to list and a pack of E5s coming. The ones we list sell ALMOST as fast as they list, so here are a few tastes:

A Tomix first edition EF500, a Kato EH10, a Kato Train version of the 205 series and a bunch of different Shinkansens (Bullet trains).

We warehouse in the Seattle area so you are looking at 3-4 days shipping and USPS rates, not overseas.  We buy in bulk from Japan and you benefit from divided shipping.

Our couriers run multiple times per month, so if you are looking for something specific...

We are also looking at doing DCC work on Japanese trains. Would you like that?

Well as you're offering if you ever come across a Kato K4315 or K4319 201 series Chuo line (Red) give me a shout would you, cheers  :grin

I would be happy to look for a Chuo sen for you. I am not familiar with the numbering you use.

Kato has released the following body styles in a Chuo commuter line paint scheme (which is more orange than red to me):

101

103

201

E233

I used to ride the 101 and 103s to school every day, this is a train I KNOW!

If you are looking for the Chuo Liner 183/189 I will look for that.

There was also an orange and green train that ran as an express from Shinjuku to Takao on the same rails, but I do not know the numbers. If this is what you want I will dig farther.

Thanks!

Bob

I am testing a shop that I had the pleasure to purchase from when I was in Japan.  If the transaction works out by Feb, I will be interesting in adding one more Japanese online shop to the list.

I received the items about 5-6 dayas after the order was made, with continuous emails coming in from Bigman. Very nice and well done process. Item also arrived as describled and packing was superb! I would continue to use more of Rakuten & Bigman if there are items of interest and the price is right~

Hope my shared experience helps! Cheers!

Hey JR500 のぞみ,

You've stumbled onto my regular supplier (Since October), Bigman.  Just a few reasons I like them:

1. Regular items are 15-20% discount;

2. Pre-orders are 25% off;

3. If there's something you want that isn't on his list just send an email.  He adds it to the list and emails you a link.

4. He's a small player and the owner is personally involved with the business;

5. He ships promptly.

That said, you can't beat the HobbySearch site for actually finding what you want.

Cheers

Hi The_Ghan!

That's nice! I'm pleased with the way Bigman Izu handled the order, with continuous email informing you of the status of the order stage by stage. It's nice to know your order is important to them, regardless big or small.

However, i've emailed to Izu san with regards to this order:

KatoE4Maxstarterset10-008.jpg

I really like this set, but it was stated on his website as 'Out-Of-Stock'. Tried contacting hiim through email (about 1 week ago, with another email last night) but yet to get a reply... *Keeping fingers crossed as Bigman's price is really good for this set*

JR500 のぞみ ,

I have the Kato 8-car set of the E4.  I love it, but I think I read that it isn't prototypically correct, so I'm going to buy a Tomix one some time in the future.  Actually, the E4 was my first shinkansen purchase - before I realised that I'd be blowing money if I didn't limit myself to a few themes: Things I've Ridden On, Kofu since 1980, Tokyo Suburban and Metro.  Even then, I've got shinkansens I haven't ridden on, such as the 500, 700 and N700.  I've also got the following Odakyu romance cars:  3000, 3100, 7000 Old colour x 2, 10000 on order.

If you're going Kato track then its a good set.  You'll really enjoy it.  I went for Tomix track with its more realistic profile and sleeper spacing.

Cheers

The_Ghan

Not prototypically?

I don't have any Shinkansen (yet), but is there some place where I can read what Shinkansen sets are correct and which are not? Otherwise I would appreciate it if someone could make a list. I also read the Tomix E1 was not correct a while ago, so it would help not only me.
