Kato - New Releases

I think it's time to acquire a TGV. Lots of nice trains here. I like the Series 117. Very pretty.

I was wondering if some car transporters were on the way when the car loading ramp was released a couple of months ago. It's tempting.

I would get the "Surreal streat corner" if it were in N scale. Too bad.

Le sigh.

I spent so long hoping for a source of HoKi  2500 or 9500 wagons, and now, just weeks after I take delivery of a 16-car coal train from minitown, here it is.

Ah well. No regrets.

Patience is a virtue that I learnt a long time ago, you might have to wait a few years but eventually what you want will appear.

Hi love the TGV's, however I feel that Kato are blowing up their chances of making big bucks with it. They should go for different liveries instead of the old tired ones.

Look at this ones

Unfortunately I can not understand why the DD51 is just a warm region again. In this livery there was also a cold region and these were also in Aichi and Hokkaido. So you could have served 2 regions ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the majority of Kato's European models only produced on a consignment basis (with their Kato UK plans being the exception)? If so, wouldn't it be Lemke who dictated the prototype / livery to be produced in this run?

I agree though that they should produce newer liveries, especially the Ouigo Duplex and Carmillion Reseau. Delightfully surprised by the Reseau Duplex though, but still hoping for a re-release of the Thalys PBKA.

Wow! Thanks. I agree. Those are amazing. I love the second one. Beautiful.

I'll be happy with this release though. It'll be my first TGV!

@TSK1000 KATO used to do licensing of SNCF through their Lemke parties, but gave up on their Lemke connection with the latest batch of TGVs (since the Lyria/Duplex TGVs in ordinary green boxes). They now do licensing directly, and later maybe directly through their KATO UK office.

There is lots of demand from Japan to make TGVs, so they produce the ones that appeal to the Japanese market with as little as possible cost or risk of flopping (making new molds, which makes releases such as the LaPoste unlikely). KATO will release several other TGVs in the future, the most likely being: A SudEste in Orange based on a completely new mold because of the upcoming 40th anniversary (and it having a cult status in Japan) and a Thalys PBA.

I'm still happy i'm not ordering much for next year ~ Good news for the wallet to recover from last few months which had been REALLY hurtful to itt...

Seen anything interesting in it?  The cover didn't seem to give away as much as last years did.  Wish they'd make a digital version available!

It's mostly the same as every other year. There are some "planned product" sections spread through the book. A few have already been announced. There are also more "article" sections - quite a few. In the past those "article" sections have give a few clues. But I doubt it this year as there are so many.

I can post my best guess at what the products are when I get home from work. That can be difficult for me as I have zero Japanese, and I don't have a wide knowledge of Japanese trains other than models on the market.

You do realise that Tomytec is bound to bring out a whole whack of buses that you just won't be able to resist, or maybe Greenmax or MicroAce will bring out a 3 to 4 car train that you have desired for time eternal and you just have to have regardless of the black market organ price tag.

I coincidentally got a "pre-order" available mail from Amazon JP for some sort of TGV that is being released this Spring...  I am not a TGV expert but it looks like a green version of the older orange TGV style train.

I remember a rural station was something we were promised last year which never came out, do they include any photos on what the rural station might look like?

Hello Gavin

Are you able to send me a picture of the rural station as well as I am curious if it is one based on the Iida Line which is one my interests.

Oh these teases...just announce these already and take my money 💸. Hopeful they'll make the Tokyu 2020 that's also in a feature column.

The Hiroshima 1000-series Green Mover LEX interests me. I have never seen the Tomytec version of this tram, which others on the forum have written about, actually available where I could easily get one. I hope it has a more robustly built, traditional drive than the Kato Portram drive.

Original orange TGV is still the best one 🙂

Agree and wished they would re-release it.  It was one of my first Kato set along with the 0 series back in the early 90's.

Due to the upcoming retirement of the e231 sets from the yamanote line, Kato announced a special farewell train set to come out in May.
