I glad the 3-year old is alright!

We have station platform gaps on the LIRR and the worst station is in Syosset which happens to be the station I get on. Here is a news video showing the problem:

16 cm isn't much, but still enough to let a small kid slip through. I guess one can only do so much to prevent accidents like these.

I wonder, though. Granted, they are no HST, and none ever passes a station without stoppibg, but our local light rail system here in St Louis manages platform gaps of at most 2cm, and most places about 1cm. Surely there are measures that could be taken elsewhere...

Some of the stations are on curves, such as the LIRR case, gaps are inevitable.  If you thought 8cm was a gaping hole, check out Tobu Asakusa Station:
