New Arnold models

I was browsing some supply shops today and noted I think these are new models of GT6 trams from Arnold.

Vienna version https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Straßenbahnen/Straßenbahnen/Arnold-HN2602D/de/modell_410368.html

Essen version https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Straßenbahnen/Straßenbahnen/Arnold-HN2603D/de/modell_410385.html

Essen ad livery version https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Straßenbahnen/Straßenbahnen/Arnold-HN2604D/de/modell_410380.html

Both analog and DCC versions... I think this is for pre-orders... Expensive as expected from Arnold.

I don't understand including an Essen livery. This will be the third time that Arnold (or Arnold/Hornby) have produced the Essen blue and yellow paint scheme. Is that system really that popular?

And yes, the prices are very high...

I don't have the previous ones, and I love the color combination, so placed a pre-order for two of these (and two Vienna red ones)...

Separately, just spent a day and a half roaming through MIlan, with good time this visit spent riding and looking at the trams. This system is such a beauty. What's also nice if you like history, openrailmap shows not only the existing tram lines, but also all the still-existing dead tracks and also all of the past tracks no longer there. I wish someone were to pick again producing their trams in N scale...

I broke down and pre-ordered a Vienna version and the Essen "Koenig Pilsener" one. I really like the Vienna colors.

From the prototype photos presently used by Hornby-Arnold on their website, it appears that the models have different windshields (vertical, not inward-sloping) and door arrangements from the real trams, so they are stand-in representations at best, or just fantasy paint schemes at worst. I do not know enough about German trams to know the details about the various Duewag versions in various cities to know how accurate each model is.

My U.S. based supplier told me that the fourth new version, in a second Coca-Cola scheme, is not expected until early 2024, even though the manufacturer website indicates the same expected timeframe as the other three. I like that one, too!

Meanwhile, I'm waiting...

Did anyone other than A.C.M.E. offer models of Milan trams in N?

Cold shower time! Ha Ha Ha  Fantasy paint schemes? Really???

The Vienna (Wien) E1 is a Duewag built under license in Austria by SGP and Lohner between 1967 and 1976. The fleet totaled  338 units with most running with trailers. Their service life ran from 1967 to 2022.  Many trams have been sold and continue to run in Krakow, Poland, Miskolic, Hungary, and Kakowice, Poland

So the prototype has 4 sets of double doors front to rear on its right side and no doors on its left side (it's a "single-end" car in American parlance), and an inward-sloping windshield. The model has a single door, paired doors, single door and paired doors, is reversible ("double-ended") with similar door arrangement on both sides, and a vertical windshield. Many modelers label this a "stand-in" model, since it's similar but not identical to the real thing. I can live with models like that, if it's all that is available.

Many of the Kato-Lemke 2-axle tram sets seem to have no prototype that's even similar in terms of the paint scheme and the model design, so they are 'fantasy" models. (Many U.S. rail modelers use the term "fubar," an informal acronym which comes from the U.S. military, but in polite circles the term "fantasy" is also used.) I can live with models like that, too. I just like an accurate model more.

Do Canadians/Canadiens use a different term?

Oh, I'd like to have a Vienna trailer, too! And some Duewag GT8s!  🙂

For me the Vienna model is kind of similarly nostalgic to the Tatra T3. (Which frankly I never really enjoyed that much when I lived in a city with T3 being the only or the predominant tram model, but I wish I had them around now... :). I have been to Vienna, I rode those trams, and they are also reminiscent of other tram models of my youth from 1970s, including German Gotha trams from early 1960s I still remember (mostly by colors though:)). So... already ordered two Vienna models.

I searched at some point in time and I don't think N scale Vienna models exist anywhere else.
