Okayama Electric Tramway Applies for Extension into JR Okayama

When you exit the tram in front of JR Okayama Station there is a two phase crossing to get to the tram stop.  In 2018 the City of Okayama approved a 100m extension to take the tram tracks across the street onto the station property much like Hiroshima is doing.

 

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has published a PDF document detailing the proposal and history of Okayama Electric Tramway as part of the approval process.

There have been issues with the reinforcement of an underground mall before laying tracks.

Masao Omori, Mayor of Okayama City , announced at a regular press conference on November 29 that construction work to develop the square in front of Okayama Station will begin on January 10, 2023 in conjunction with the extension of the Okayama Electric Tramway streetcars.
