Airlines Change Policy

Due to the dork bomber this past week in the US on the Delta flight, airlines and the TSA are already making knee jerk security policies. this may affect what and how much you can bring back with you to the states.

ANA: http://www.ana.co.jp/topics/notice091227/index_e.html

JAL: https://www.jal.co.jp/cms/other/en/weather_info_int.html

Expect to see more extremes like Air Canada to come to the US shortly.

If the AirCanada policy reflects what the other carriers are thinking about doing, it will mean a lot of headaches for anyone trying to bring back trains as a gift, and you may want to think about shipping as an alternative.

Frankly, I feel bad for the cleaning crews that are going to have to clean the seats as a result of all the bladder loss. As anyone who has flown from Narita to the US knows, ANA and JAL flights hit the US pretty early in the morning about ninety minutes AFTER breakfast.

Isn't this reaction overblown as the airline restrictions are only for the next few days while the incident at Detroit is investigated?

I thnik Canada Air's reaction is overblown, however, the fear is that the TSA is not going to disclose the new policies and CA's is essentially what the TSA is looking to do. A lot of the talk in the GR forums is fear that this ban is going to be perm similar to the 3-1-1 rule after the shoe bomber's failed attempt. The biggest worry to the industry is now losing biz travelers.

On Australian domestic flights the rules for carry on luggage have just been relaxed, on the the theory that if security officers aren't checking every little old lady for knitting needles and nail clippers they can spend more time watching for bombers.
