Transformers + trains!

Recommended Posts

The older generation of us might recall Raiden, the combiner transformer that was composed of 6 prototypical Japanese trains and locomotives that combine into one mean looking robot:

And here comes the remake, and i must say, i am VERY TEMPTED!

It is truely amazing! look at the photos and we can recognise some of Tomytec products in there immediately:

  • JR 500系 changed the title to Transformers + trains!

The next Masterpiece trainbot is now on preorder. I’m slightly tempted to start this collection as they’re very well modelled and who wouldn’t want a huge combining robot made out of JNR era trains.

Shouki Masterpiece Generations 01

transforms into a 0 series shinkansen and is out in June 2022. He also forms the body of Raiden.

Getsuei MPG-02 transforms into a EF65 and will be released in September 2022. He also forms Raiden’s right leg.

So i bent... Amazon was providing a really hard to beat price so here goes....

The box art really is pretty nice, quite small for a train this size

Right out of the box, the train takes up almost half of the space, along with display tracks and some accessories

Apart from the main body, we get the display track, his blaster, a trans-piece for connecting to a display stand, two seats (that can fit into the front cabin) and the shield piece, that will serve as the chest piece of the combined form, Raiden!

Takara Tomy placed major emphasis on the train mode this time, and i must say it looks almost NOT transformer-ish, if not for the transforming panel lines. The front nose piece is in a whole which is great. The model is also supposed to be HO Scale, but i dont have a HO Scale model to compare this with...

While i love the Zero series train form, the robot form is pretty neat as well!

Needless to say, it's on to the rest of the gang!

Getsuei (EF65) is out pretty soon and Yukikaze (200 series) in February. Would be kind of nice to see what all will look like once in Raiden mode.

I still see a few Shoukis around in some local hobby shops but I think the next 2 releases will sell out pretty quickly.

Pre-ordered the Getsuei as soon as i got hooked on the Shouki... It's getting ready to be shipped over to me! Pre-ordered the Yukikaze as well.

Will be using this thread to share the MPG series trainbots till completion!

Lovely box art as usual. Not a huge fan og EF-65, but it looks really good!

No space wasted on the box, which is what i really like

All the contents. The rail is of less width than Shoki's, as it is prototypically correct. The guage of the shinkansen is indeed larger than the usual 'Zai-rai' sen. Glad Tomy has actually captured this very minute but accurate point!

Attach the pantographs and it looks just like a model, not a transformer!

Looks pretty cool as well!

Let's see if the Yukikaze has the same rail track width as the Shouki!
