These are again great photos. I especially like the JNR era photos. The ED62 Iida freight, Amarube bridge looks incredible, sad but inevitable it got replaced by a concrete bridge. I assume a Kamome or Matsukaze service Kiha 82 going across and the lovely Kiha 81 Kuroshio. 

 

Your rail tour in 1976 was before i was born but so many interesting trains that i have in either or both N and HO model form

I remember Kiha 82 of photos at Amarube was Exp. "Hamakaze"

My elder son visited Amarube bridge just before was replaced by a concrete.

I felt it somehow looked different from the past.

Kiha 81 at Wakayama station was later days and withdrew immediately after I took photos.

Very nice shots, I love the kiha 81 espically.  It reminded me that I need to finish adding the details to my kato model!

I agree. It’s a very well made model and there’s not too many parts to add. I have also seen some third party company called Fuji Parts who make metal handrails for both the Kiha 81 and 82 from Kato.

JR-W Class Kiha 181 DMU "Hamakaze" at Kobe station in 2004

These are a favorite of mine.  I saw them on Super Inaba service at Okayama in 2003.  As they accelerated from the platform, the engines would throttle up dramatically, drop back to near idle, then again to high rpm (for diesels, it was probably low 2000s rpm or something).  An impressive sight/sound before I wandered over to the Kibi Line platform for a KIHA40 home.

I visited Iida line took photos of Series 52 EMU called as "Ryuden(Streamline EMU)"  in 1976

Those Iida line electrics were so nice. I shall use this as a reference for my Kato n gauge version. I really like the look of the railways when they weren’t at their best. These sorts of trains make great weathering projects.

 

Surprisingly, Japanese models haven’t started doing factory weathering like British outline. There are also a number of British model shops that do custom weathering as a sideline to their main business.

 

I remember the Kyushu model shop had been selling some of their in-house weathered models like the Kato JR Shikoku 2000系

As you said, Makers aren't keen to make weathered models in japan.

I think the reason why that is because japanese modelers are prefer to absolutely brand-new items and feel weathered model is dirty.

I stopped by Tokyo before traveled Hokkaido in 1980.

Because I lived in Kobe so I had to go via Tokyo or Niigata.

In 1976, I touched at Wakayama station and took a photo of Series 70 EMU on the Hanwa line before visited the Kisei line.
