Bibai Railway

Recommended Posts

I just translated the German Wikipedia article on the Bibai Railway on Hokkaido and created an English article.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibai_Railway

The article still needs work. I need to confirm some place names and add the citations from the German article.

A few questions:

Does anyone have any additional information on the Bibai Railway from verifiable and citable sources?

I’m also interested in developing a section on motive power. Wikipedia’s entry on 0-10-0 locomotives (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/0-10-0) features a picture of the Bibai Railway Krauss-Maffei no. 2, though the information is a bit funky — Wikipedia states these locomotives were sold by JNR to private railways in 1950, though the photo of the Bilbai coal mine in Wikimedia Commons with a similar locomotive dates from 1930. Can anyone please clarify?

Thanks!

No.2 and No.3 were built by Mitsubishi Shipyards in 1920, and no. 4 by same in 1926.  The Bibai Railway was owned/run by Mitsubishi Minerals, so it was all in the same corporate family.

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/国鉄4110形蒸気機関車

*don't trust English versions of Japanese wikipedia entries- they typically are at best summaries, and leave out details, or are just wrong.

Thank you! That’s really helpful. Unfortunately, the Japanese article doesn’t cite its sources in the article (it just lists them at the end) so I will need to find sources that confirm this.
