Back in gauge 1 for a while

The finished Australian Mecedes armoued car. I had actually got it in the first coat of primer when I found another picture of it in the background and realised the radiator cover  was completely wrong and had to be replaced

It really is quite small as you can see from the figures

The dennis 3 ton GS truck also started out as a fire engine. All of the red bits are from the Airfix kit

The hooks in the side for tying the canvas cover on are small jackstay eye bolts slightly opened up

The cook is a resin 1/35th one I've had for years, I'm trying to remember the maufacturer as I threw out all my military model catalogues years ago, Doh!

The various foods were white metal ones that I think were done by Phoenix models and i think the gramaphone was a Phoenix one as well. It actually has etched brass 78rpm records to go with it

I've had no luck finding a drawing of the standard horse drawn field kitchen used by the British Army in WW1 to give the cooks something to cook on but searching on Google images came across this.

it is an improvised field kitchen roughly constructed out of bricks with a kettle tray and an oven. The original multi fuel design as anything that can burn can be put on the fire

it gives me chance to use something else left over from the gauge 1 Mardy colliery layout. Real 1/35th ceramic bricks.  Convincingly rough cast and the right sort of colour

I see these are still available so I might get some more at some stage. I think the plan might be to bond them together with PVA glue mixed with light grey paint to represent a crude mortar

I'm even tempted to put a H0 smoke unit in the flue and an orange LED in the grates

I'm bonding them together with a mix of Professional PVA glue ( not poundshop stuff) and craft shop acrylic as a mortar and not worrying if it shows out of the joints. i suspect these would have been fairly rough and ready in real life

I've got five courses done tonight so I'll let them harden off before carrying on. Hope I've got enough!

I wanted to get a fairly rustic looking oven but I don't think the sergeant would have been happy with this! It does match my attempts at full size bricklaying though

Good fun though
