Micro chop saw

So I have this little mini chop saw

which works well, but is a bit large for little bits that are just a bit too big for the chopper to cut perfectly square on the vertical.

saw this little guy that uses 1” roto tool cut off discs so I thought I would give it a whirl. I’ve knoodled on making my own basically like this one so I cheated. It’s got a rechargeable battery in it and you just charge with usb.

first test and it was decent with the supplied disc which is a metal disc. I have to pull out my really thin discs to see how well it does on plastics. Not super powerful but luckily plastic doesn’t need a lot of umph...

cheers

Is there a link to the blue one that I'm missing? Or are you just gloating about your new purchase to torment us?

Doh! Added, but yes I’ll gloat away!

i think HS and HLJ carry it and it’s on ebay as well. I just popped from amazon.jp with current shipping restrictions.

Mine broke before I even plugged it in. The way they packed it in the box the plastic lever was bent. When I went to bend it back it broke.

What really got me was I moved a couple of boxes out of the way and reached in the back of the shelf to get this one. I shook my head and said

well better me than the next guy at least I can fix it.

Bummer! Which broke for you the micro one or the mini one? The micro one was just in plastic bubble pack and amazon sent it in a bubble envelope no box! I was worried when I plugged it in as it did not go but turns out you have to run it off battery and when plugged in and charging the motor is disconnected... I’ll see how the battery does but I may end up taking it out of the loop and direct power it.

the micro one is not a super built machine, but for the little bits I think it should work when I dig out my really thin cutoff discs on those too small for the larger saw and too big for the razor chopper to do square vertically.

the mini chopper is pretty sturdy and good for larger bits. Smaller bits you really need to use a piece of aluminum L stock in the clamping mech and your fingers get near the blade or you have to make a small holding block for the stock. Plus if you are cutting little bits the tend to fly away due to the air currents it generates.

Oh the little stop lever arm that has to be engaged before you can push the saw down?

ive thought of removing mine as I’m always forgetting it’s there! I’ve never started to push it down when I shouldn’t be.

Just collecting those other saws you were telling Cat about, so that I'll be able to find them when I need them.

speaking of razor saws I recently got one of these. I’ve tested it and it’s much better at small styrene bits than standard razor saws as finer teeth.

and micromark has a miter box for these blades (jlc does as well but over 2x price!

the platz hypercut saws are also really nice but expensive. But excellent for really fine stuff. You can saw paper and chipboard cleanly with them!

I’ll start threads on these above, just haven’t gotten to doing enough work with them to give decent review. I need to buy the Micro miter box as have only played with a friends for a short while, she pushed me over the edge to get the saw, just waiting for the next micromark order to toss in the miter box!

cheers

It might be better to just make a big "Mini saws" thread, and perhaps make it a sticky post.
