Japan’s trains are in a league of their own. Japan’s subculture of train fanatics is no different

An interesting and very true article.

One will see an ordinary local train arrive at say Aizu Wakamatsu, and as the passengers get off and walk to the exit, two or three of them will stop and take a shot of the train. These are just ordinary passengers, but ones who obviously have an interest in the railways.

Aizu=Wakamatsu is an interesting station because not only do you have regular trains there, but also excursion trains (FruiTea and SL Banetsu Monogatari) and trains coming up from the Aizu Railway Line. No wonder why you see a lot of railfans there every now and then.
