Auction of collection of Victorian and South Australian models.

Folks,

A well-known Australian railway modeller was Mr. Frank Kelly, who died some years ago.

His speciality was the construction in OO (1:76) scale of early VR and SAR locos and rolling stock, running on 20mm gauge track, to represent in scale the Vic. and SA broad gauge of 5ft. 3 inches..

When he started, probably in the 1960's, very few people modelled Australian railways, so he had to scratch build all of his stuff.

A fair part of his collection will be auctioned on the 22nd. of this month, by Leski Auctions.

Leski specialises in auctioning such items as antiques, old cars, toys etc.

There is a catalogue of the lots for sale, see

https://www.leski.com.au/content/auction/a-treasure-chest-of-toys-trains-and-models-a453/

Even if you're not interested in early Australian trains, it's worth looking at to see the work of a master model maker

And also the prices being asked!

Regards,

Bill,

Melbourne

Add to previous post, 55 items offered, 43 sold for a total of $A 41,625.00. Highest item price, $A 1,300.00, for an SAR 4-6-0 tender loco and six goods wagons. $A is about 2/3rds of $US.

Sad to see that almost nothing even closely met it‘s estimate

Sadly not the best of times for a disposable income purchase and also auctions can be very fickle as well as auction estimates.

Estimates were way too high. Just auction house trying to drum up business.

More likely not something most want. Remember when HO was king for railway modelling. Now we have other options? I'd hazard a guess that most winners at this auction were male pensioners with very angry female pensioner wives.
