I know, I know... but would you say that the JR pass is targeted to japanese passport holders that have been living abroad for 10 years, or more for foreign people who mostly do not speak japanese? I would guess the latter, which makes this document in japanese only baffling to me.

I'd say this is a press release aimed at Japanese companies and organisations who deal with the rail pass in some way, not marketing aimed at potential users.

Wow I just noticed the price increase for the new JR passes!

 

From October 2019:

Ordinary 7 Day 29,650

Ordinary 14 Day 47,250

Ordinary 21 Day 60,450

 

Green 7 Day 39,600

Green 14 day 64,120

From June 1 2020

 

Ordinary 7 Day  33,610 (13% increase)

Ordinary 14 Day 52,960 (12% increase)

Ordinary 21 Day 66,200 (10% increase)

 

Green 7 Day 44,810 (13% increase)

Green 14 Day 72,310 (13% increase)

Green 21 Day 91,670 (10% increase)

Well there hasnt been a price increase for 6 years or more. I started tracking prices in 2014. Unless to count the 2% gst increase. So seems fair. All other passes of similar nature seem to have a bi yearly increase.

Not that it matters because nobody can go to Japan for tourism purposes now anyway.
