I've seen this on sale on yahoo! and eBay, but it was never announced at the Tomy website. http://shopping.hobidas.com/shop/hobbyshop-more/item/TTEC9016.html A very interesting find I'd say as the bogies of the front cab seem to have 3rd rail pickup shoes and its release wasn't announced in a big way, as most other Tomytec releases are.

Anyway, I was wondering if there are more of these 'unannounced' releases of the 'Collection' series of Tomytec. I'm sure there are, but is there a website or something that compiles all of these 'strangers'?

That's really interesting! I too wonder what else might have been released like this that we never notice…I'd put a subway on my layout for Tomytec prices!

A lot of the stuff Tomytec releases are not sold in regular stores and are made for one-off events or for particular companies. There are dozens of Bus Collection releases that ARE listed on their pages but were not able to be ordered from the normal sources, and I am sure the same applies to the Train Collection releases as well

Tokyu has had its own releases from Tomytec.  The current Tokyu release can only be purchased at the Tokyu museum in Tokyo.  It's been posted here before.

Tomytec announced a release of two three-car sets of the Nagano RR 8500-Series and the Chichibu RR 7000-Series. Both of them are 2nd hand cars from the Tokkyuu RR 8500-Series.

I'm now seriously considering a switch towards electrified traction, as these trains are one of my favourites.

Have acquired the complete tomytec Tetsuduo collection set 12, as well as a number of 2, 3, 4, and 8 sets. Have acquired and installed all the necessary motors, wheels, and pantographs'. Would also like to replace the arnold couplers. Can anyone advised which tomix/tomytec couplers are available that can be utilized with tomytec. Regards, Hector

Hi Hectortron, I hope you didn't throw away the original couplers from this set, since the replacements with springs are not very useful I discovered.

Recently, I have collected a few from the 12 Series as well (the Kotoden trains) and successfully replaced all of the ugly and bulky Arnold couplers with more refined Tomix TN claw couplers. My inspiration came from this blogpost: http://blog.goo.ne.jp/manabunn2009/e/9f62a8687e4e29002b85e06f7ea3f54e I think the picture explain the process pretty well.

When adding the couplers, you have to cut the sides of the inside pins a millimeter or two on each side to leave some room for maneuverability if you're going to use small radii on your layout. I've had some real problems with adjusting the couplers to make the trains go flawlessly through 'S' curves and over points, but it worked out eventually.

If you're going for body-mounted Tomix TN couplers (you can use any you like), you need to do a lot of cutting on the TN coupler mount. If you're not confident with this, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not very hard, though it's easy enough to mess up a rather expensive body-mounted TN coupler.

I hope this helps a bit.
