Hi

I recently ordered train name plates set W1012 from Moriya Studio.

The Twilight Express was needed for my EF81to pull the *bargain* Twilight Express.

Now I have 3 additional plates.

One is for RAICHO.

Doing a lot of online searching I only found EMUs with RAICHO.

Question: Does anyone know about a locomotive powered RAICHO train?

The other 2 are for NIHONKAI

The NIHONKAI could go with my series 20 overnight train.

But wiki says ... was hauled by EF81 ... .

I do not want to add another EF81 to my fleet.

There are so much other types of locomotives that have to koin my collection before a second EF81 should come.

I think I have to change motive power of Twilight Express from EF81 to DD51... not sure right now ... "problems" occured by a small additional name plate 🙄

According to the Mook ありがとうエル特急 (Arigato "L" Limited Express) the Raicho limited express commenced operation in 1964 using 481 Series EMUs. It changed to 485 Series operation a few years later and even saw 583 Series EMUs in the 1970-80s before changing to 681 Series EMUs in 1995. Don't see any mention of locomotives ever being used.

Thanks for confirming my search result.

The search engines often do not give me what I want to have - so it is always good to get information from a real person.

Now - what to do with this round name plate? Attach to an EMU 481 --> no!

Yeah, that's a strange one. I've tried Googling variations on Raicho headmark, trainmark and headboard in Japanese and not one photo of a round headmark come up. Not saying it didn't exist but might have been for open days only or maybe they make them up for very special occasions?

This page was quite useful: http://nihonkai.exp.jp/hm/rw/raicho.html

The early Nihonkai trains were pulled by EF58s and used the 20系 coaches.

As for Raicho, I too have only been able to find EMUs but I wonder if there were lesser known services called this such as SL pulled stock. Perhaps you could email Moriya Studio to see if they could shed some light.
