Not good news if you have relatives in Western Japan.

 

Entire southwest Japan city of 600,000 ordered evacuated over rain, landslide fears

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, rainfall until 4 a.m. on July 3 stood at 835 millimeters in the city of Ebino, Miyazaki Prefecture, also in southwestern Japan, and 631.5 millimeters in the city of Satsumasendai in neighboring Kagoshima Prefecture. Rainfall during the 24-hour period up to shortly past 9 a.m. came to 147 millimeters in the city of Kanoya, Kagoshima Prefecture, 143 millimeters in the city of Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture, and 116 millimeters in Ebino.

After last year where people were asked to evacute but most didnt take advice. And many deaths arose. I guess agencies are trying to be louder that before.

Actualy proportion of the population who "evacuated" (i.e. took refuge in a designated place of refuge): ca. 0.4%.

 

Doesn't look like a major disaster at this point.
