Shin Yamaguchi and Ogori

Folks,

In my early days of travelling in Japan, when one wanted to travel on the SL Yamaguchi one got off the Shinkansen set at Ogori station.

Then one year, I got off there, and it had become Shin Yamaguchi!

A bit confusing, as it is about 14 km from Yamaguchi itself, a good distance for a 'Shin" (new) station to be at from its name station.

Did the name change only apply to the station , or did the whole town of Ogori  suddenly become Shin Yamaguchi, with accompanying  postal address changes, business name changes, etc.?

Regards,

Bill,

Melbourne.

Hmmm interesting. Google maps still show the address as Ogori. Just to make it confusing.

Well the area is still "Ogōri", but as part of Yamaguchi city:

"Yamaguchi-ken, Yamaguchi-shi, Ogōrishi-mogō"

Prior to the merge it would have been something like:

"Yamaguchi-ken, Yoshiki-gun Ogōrishi-cho Ooaza mogō"

What about before the un-merge before the merge? Ogori has been merged into Yamaguchi before and them split out and now merged back in.  Between 44 and 49.

Well no Shinkansen station back then, so no impetus on the part of the prefectural capital to get a Shinkansen station with its name on it.
