Now next step is to realize the inner cover of the vault with redutex stone cover : note the exotic shapes of the cuts … get some headaches with the mathematics to calculate the shapes to match the curve of the vault 😝  😂

This is the shape of the last arch extension : it a sinusoïdalo-elliptic pattern … 😆

And here the other pieces of redutex for the rest of the vault :

How did you make the basic round curved tube? Is is one piece? Or is each section between outside supports a separate piece?

It is one piece of cardboard that you can see on this photo :

The vault is held in shape by the arch.

Here is the result with the vault stone texture :

Thanks so much, Bubule. I made a tunnel of similar shape a few years ago, but I think your method is much smarter than what I did. I think I'll try it next time. Is there a method for choosing the dimensions of the cut-out triangles based on the radius of curvature that you want? Or do you just work it out by trial and error?

It is calculated.
For the dimension of the large you take measurement of the length of the inner vault of the tunnel portal 115 mm for me. For the length you take the length of the outer travel of the curve you want to cover 150mm for me.

For the triangle you need to calculate the length of the inner cuve, you subtract it to the outer one and divide it by the number of segment you want on your vault ( 6mm for me).

Keep in mind that the triangle need to be only applied on the round part of the vault. You need to mesure the vertical part length of the portal vault. This part is strait and applied on both ends : inner and outer curve length 25mm for me. the center is the triangle part to cut.

difficult to explain it … 😢 hope you will understand …

I made a test with a piece of paper assembled with adhesive tape to confirm that I have made no mistake in calculation before cutting the cardboard. At this stage you can make little adjustment if needed :

That's brilliant. Thanks Bubule!!

Thanks !
The detail that will blow minds … triangles are an approximation … if you want to be perfect you need to calculate with sinus 😝. You can see the real shape needed on the extantion I have shown. But triangle works well.

LoL 😂

A test with green kirara kato DEO 900 and Tomytec Hiei DEO 700.

Smoooooth ! Love ❤️ driving Japanese n scale trains 🚊.

First tunnel validated ! Yeehaa ! Ready to paint.

Two more tunnel to build… and they are trickier ones…

Hello all. 😊

This morning a little control on the layout for the position of the first tunnel :

Adjustments need to be made but globally I am satisfied.

So now I can go to made the the second tunnel vault : a lot more tricky ! 😰

Hello guys !😊

test in real with thin cardboard and adhesive tape :

Design ok so now I need to «  cut baby cut » followed by «  glue baby glue » 😜 🥳

Hello all !

work is going on the second curved vault : final mount before putty adjustments and covering with stone.

And the third two tracks curved vault start to take shape with the first pieces puts togever :
