Got a delayed package from AmiAmi today, the new Rhätische Bahn stuff is finally here.

Both the loco in Unesco livery and the new baggage car are very nice, I'm looking forward to trying to run them. They got a place in caskets with other RhB stuff.

Also got both sets of Rhätische Bahn EW I cars. The expansion set that comes with the casket includes a sticker set for it that hides all the "additional set" texts, it's nice, too bad it was not part of the Bernina casket as well. As I already have two EW I cars from the Hakone Tozan set, I got a Casco urethane for 10 cars to use for these cars. It surprised me a lot that the EW I casket is larger than the Bernina one and also larger than the Casco urethane! You can see the spare space on the photo. Does Kato use different casket sizes? I only have one other Kato casket (Hanawa Line freight car set) and it is also the larger one. It is kinda weird...

Does it have any purpose that some cars have thick white line and others have thin one?

Both line thicknesses are accurate, IIRC the thinner one is an earlier version of the livery. I tend to split mine up anyway, the three thinner lined vehicles run with my Pirata Arosa Express coach for now. If Kato get around to making a steuerwagen that plus the three will be prototypical.

Talking of which, I believe the two types of steuerwagen which use the same cab design as the Allegra have identical bodywork, despite one being all 2nd and the other a 1st? Just thinking tooling that would also give them a first step to the new ALVRA six/seven car sets...

Thanks for explanation, agree that split into two groups looks better, neater.

Yes, both At and Bt have the same chassis. Possible future expansion by Kato, together with the rest of Alvra cars? 🙂

From observation, Kato seem more interested in sleek new trains. A steuerwagen is the next missing link in the range (unless they finally make some freight stock or go off the wall with a BVZ loco for the Glacier Express theme). On that basis I don't see them making an older one like the NEVA or the Arosa pattern. They already have the CAD files for the Allegra, so they'd just have to adapt the sides and roof, save as, and start cutting tools. I'd imagine some parts would be reusable without needing new tools.

If they offered the Bt version then it would be a standalone addition to the existing range (combine with EW1s and any loco/Allegra). With the option to use most of the same tooling to make the At version to go with an Alvra set later on. Again, compatible with Ge 4/4 III and Allegra, and easily split into a basic/add on set like the rest of the range.
