On the plus side, at least I can buy models of all the trains I saw (or probably saw), hah.

I just bought (ordered) a 4 pack of DR green/beige passenger carts from Brawa.   When I was in Bayern in the later 80s, you could sometimes see mixed sets of cars (DB/DR, and sometimes ÖBB) in passenger trains that came from Hof to Munich.  So I figure adding in a DR car or two to my DB trains is OK :)   FIrst time I rode a DR car I was amazed at how alike yet different (simplified) it was from the DB car that was similar.   (Headrests and seating much more simplified).

Are you ever GLAD when you get outbid on eBay?  I had bid on a  HobbyTrain locomotive that I did not really want but would have taken at a really good price.  But in my exuberance of managing a few other bids, I accidentally raised the bid a lot higher than I wanted to go and it is ending soon.   Luckily someone came in and outbid me, finally.

Looks like I won another Fleischmann BR151 on eBay.  This time a green/beige version.   It was not listed as such, just as a "Fleischmann N scale locomotive" but the running number starts with 151 and it looks the same as my green one.  $51 delivered.   We'll see what shape it is in when I get it.  Pics don't look bad and they claim it runs fine.  Someone tried to snipe me in the last few seconds but my max bid was $5 more and it ran out before he could try again...    As long as they work fine, I'll take Fleischmann DB e-loks for $45-$60...

I'll post pics when they come.  I have an Arnold Lufthansa Express BR111 from the same seller on its way.  Price was around $50 delivered.  One that I was kind of hoping someone would snipe me on and take though from what I read online, it is easy to convert to DCC and runs just fine, so will be a nice addition to the stable.  The only problem is it has a special Lufthansa livery and the corresponding cars are way to expensive on eBay.  If nothing else, I can push the Tomica cleaning car around with it :)   The set itself was from the early 90s.  Will also post pics when it comes.

I am truly a sucker when it comes to Great Western branchline locomotives. I have the old Mainline (Palitoy) version of the Dean Goods, whilst it was a beautiful model with the exception of the tender drive mechanism it ran like an absolute dog courtesy of that said mechanism. When Oxford announced they were bringing out a new model I had to have one, there was a delay for about a year due to them resolving a number of detail issues with the design but overall it was worth the wait.

My dm-toys.de box arrived today, finally, as well as an eBay purchase (from a US seller).

First, the dm-toys.de box contents:

large.yn0wpyPAS7qP86w6XcVuTA.jpg.ddd3d48d7bfd81b9345b483b620cccb2.jpg

This is a Fleischmann DB BR 120 locomotive (DCC ready), a Fleischmann Eurofima 1st class wagon (Belgian SNCB), a Fleischmann DB Gondola car, a Model Union test rig (electrified with roller), and some shrink tubing.

Then on eBay I found this Arnold Lufthansa Express locomotive (BR111).  It was listed as running but hesitant, and that is true.   I probably shouldn't have bothered as any cars that match the livery are wicked expensive and it is an early 90s model.  But the price was OK and I figure a good cleaning and lubing of the bogies/driving gear and cleaning out the motor itself and the brushes should fix any hesitancy.  And locgeek.com did a DCC conversion of this (much more extensive than I plan and he said it runs well).   It looks nice, and if nothing else, once I get it working better, it can push the Tomix cleaning car around the track or something :)

Finally, some group shots of the cars being pulled by the engines.

Besides the Japanese Shinkansen and tank/flat cars from Amazon (via DHL), the postman brought two boxes from Europe, that I have been patiently tracking about 50 times per day.  One from locs4fun in Holland, and one form Model Bahn Kramm in Germany.   locs4fun seems to be one guy with a side business.  Most of his stuff is used (maybe all of it).  Some stuff is listed as new, for example the locomotive I got.   It looks new, but the box had obviously been opened (for testing?  for photos?).  I The new stuff is usually newer part numbers, and the used stuff older part numbers.

Model Bahn Kramm sent a Fleischmann E10 (Museum Livery) locomotive.  This is a model that I guess has been restored and is in a museum, but is painted like an early E10.  The E10 became the 110 class after the DB redid their classification system, I believe in the late 60s.  This is DCC ready and has the 6 pin header for a decoder.  I also got a bunch of DB passenger wagons (or luggage / post) from various Epochs/types.  Mostly whatever they had on closeout or on sale.   Euro train stuff is expensive so I try and find the close outs or sale items, or used/ebay etc.

loks4fun sent a Fleischmann E41 locomotive (early livery).  The E41 class is a light weight locomotive that was part of the same "unified locomotive" project that gave us the E10 and others.  I also got an Arnold and a Fleischmann passenger wagon (used but very nice condition) from loks4fun.

Ooh, a POP-Wagen!

The Arnold restaurant car is a model of an experimental paint scheme used by DB before they settled on the blue or red and beige livery. Different types had different paint schemes giving some very colourful trains. IIRC only one of that type of coach made it into POP colours and it was written off after catching fire. It has been immortalised in pretty much every scale as manufacturers already had the correct tooling. The other POP restaurant cars were pre-war Schurzenwagen.

I've managed to bag a Ge 4/4 II from Kato. Just in time as MTP have posted that they've sold out and will only be able to get a few more. Hopefully Kato will make another batch (and develop their Swiss metre gauge range further) given how fast these sold.

The green cars seems to be mostly DB ep. 3 ones, which are pre WW2 types and mostly ran with steam trains and early electrics (green 'altbau'-s) and were mostly replaced by the start of ep. 4, and the first part of the train and the locomotive is near the end of ep. 4. The red/pink/white IC car seems to be ep. 5 and seems to have a DBAG logo, not a DB one. The museum locomotive is painted in DB livery but has all the features and modernizations needed to run on the modern network.

Yeah the green ones I got because I have (or have coming) some early version "Einheits" locomotives and they were on sale or otherwise cheap. :)   I also will get a steamer or two (post war) one of these days.    They are all labeled "DB" so would represent post war versions.   I may also get an E19 labeled "Deutsche Bundesbahn" that I've seen on eBay.

I have everything from early "Einheits" to late Ep V in terms of locomotives and decided to get a range of cars to match in order to have trains that "match" (maybe not prototypically but to a layman "look right").

I have several more used POP-farben and similar looking cars coming to match the one.

Postman bought a small box from an eBay purchase.

Hmm, what is this?

5a99ddb38051f_large.DIwivZl0QeFmfon3M0UA.jpg.2723febef9b567c4835013cd39554230.jpg

A Fleischmann DB BR151 in the cream/green livery.   (I got another eBay DB BR151 in all green last week).

Unfortunately, in shipping, both couplers were broken off the engine.  They are there in his original pics on eBay and they were sitting with the engine when I unwrapped it.   Should be easy enough to fix, but it sucks to have to worry about it.  Not a big deal.

When I first put it on the track, it ran ok (probably needs a cleaning/maintenance job, being a used eBay special).   I took the body off, and now it won't run.  I must have bumped something.   Should be easy enough to fix once I find where my multi-meter went (when the wife made me put everything away last week),

The final pics show both this BR151 and the green one, and then some pics comparing this (1/160) engine to a KATO EF510 engine (1/150), which shows the size difference of the two n-scales.   The actual real BR151 is 19.490m / 63 ft, 11.3 in in length, while the EF510 is 19.8 m / 65.0 ft in length, so the real EF510 engine is about 31 cm, a hair over 1 foot longer in real life, but the models have a greater disparity in size, of course, due to the 1/160 vs 1/150

With the BR151s, being a heavy freight engine, I need more freight cars.  Most of my German/European cars are passenger.  I do have one gondola car in hand, and 2 more gondola cars, a few container cars, and several other random freight cars on order...   Maybe they can pull my KoKi fleet around.

The green BR151 reminds me that I should have an old H0 Lima model of that locomotive type somewhere lying around.

Got the ICE Amtrak version from Fleischmann. Despite its age it's a very good runner. Though it is badly needing LED lights instead of the candles it has now on each motorcar.

That is cool.   I saw a set of 6 Amtrak labeled ICE cars on eBay over the weekend and had not known about the train being used on Amtrak and so went and read about it. Pretty interesting.

Yes. That's the reason why I got it (and because the ordinary ICE 1 is too long, and the upcoming minitrix release is waaaay too expensive at 1000 euro) Trains that traveled the world I find very interesting. For the same reason I have the 10-561 Orient Express that I will post in the other thread once I finished interior lighting on it.

UPS dropped by today with a box from Modelbahn Lippe.

Mostly DCC stuff from Digikeijs, and a Trix cleaning car (DB labeled).  This just has a wet/dry spring loaded pad on it.  For when you don't want to run the Tomix I guess.   (I have another order with all my D&H decoders waiting at ModelBahn Lippe for a couple backordered items, and the Digikeijs adapters for the switch controller that will work with KATO switches is in that order)

After posting the above, the post office lady stopped by with two boxes of eBay purchases.  One had some used German style buildings and 2 used Fleischmann engines, and another 10 used Fleischmann and Arnold DB cars.  (Yes, that is my 2nd Fleischmann DB BR103 Beige/Red engine -- they are the same part number but have different running numbers on them!)

The seller of one of the boxes actually used a lot of nice stamps to send it.  My daughter was happy with that.

(Yes I now the blue/gray InterRegio car does not really belong with the Popfarben cars, but it was lonely by itself and it kind of matches, and I will eventually get more IR cars at some distant point in the future)

Chad, you’re gunna need a new house soon! I hope these were off the kitchen table by the time your wife got home! Nice haul.

at times I pick up old us stamps on ebay new for less than face value and use them on letters to freak people out! Figure it drives the price of my stamp collection up using them. It is like free money, got like $50 bucks face value for about $18 the other day on a series of auctions.

Wife is not home yet (she works 3x12 a week) and yes, everything is off the table :) .  I keep some track and the Athearn DC control unit upstairs to test things when they come.

We are working on the new house.  2020 time frame to build.  It will have a large train room above the garage in what the builders around here call "bonus rooms" or "bonus space."

I am basically done.    I have pushed BUY too many times.  Just waiting for stuff to come in, where I already was weak, and hit BUY.  So there will be a few more posts, but not that may.  (And a few pre-orders of Japanese stuff I want for our Osaka-theme that will disappear and become hard to get).

(And for those paying attention, yes, I accidentally bought 2 of the Arnold "Speisewagen" in the gray/red.  Both were bought before either showed up and I lost track of what I had ordered :).  Both were used and were cheaper than the average used car...)

Regarding stamps: My sister's FIL sends letters with old, unused stamps.  I've gotten Christmas Cards and stuff from them with a series of old 8 cent, 10cent, or even older stamps on them.   Kind of funny.

Woh, not this is getting weird.  Chadbag, I've been watching all your purchases and I see so much of myself in you - buying Japanese trains as if it's going out of style and then you add the German trains.  That was me like a year ago, I've recently re-focused on American trains but still pretty much Kato stuff as I might have enough Japanese trains to play with for a while.  And then you mention your wife works 3 12's, mine too. What a coinkidink! :)

I'm going to PM you, I might have some German coaches available if you still need more.

@serotta1972 Feel from to PM me.

Today I got an eBay package from a guy in Indiana.  One I was kind of hoping I did not win but the price did not go sky high and I ended up with it, which is OK.   I have some cars that it can pull.  Maybe it will become my track cleaner with my Trix and Tomix track cleaning cars.

It is a used Arnold DB Class 194 (E94).  According to Wikipedia:

Quote

The DRG Class E94 is an electric heavy freight locomotive built for Deutsche Reichsbahn from 1940, with the bulk of deliveries taking place in that year. It was a major evolution of the DRG Class E 93. Railway aficionados still call the type "Grünes Krokodil" (Green Crocodile) because of the resemblance to the Swiss locomotive nicknamed "Crocodile".

and

Quote

After World War II, new units were ordered and delivered as late as 1957.

When I was living in S Germany in 86-87, you sometimes saw these engines so it fits into my general "era".

This one runs ok.  It has some hesitations and sluggishness in it.  Nothing that a good cleaning, maintenance, and lube should be able to fix.   Have not opened it yet.

I am swearing off eBay for a while.   Huge money pit.

In addition to my replacement Shikishima Express, I received my new Kiha47 from Tomix, which I would share an image of if I could figure out how to insert a jpeg into my message. I'm guessing from what I have read here and at Sumida Crossing in the past I can use a standard Digitrax decoder in the model.
