Tiny Maglev

This week I had the chance to get sheets of pyrolithic graphite, 0.1mm thick. Since pyro graphite is diamagnetic and very light, I had to try out this:

The graphite sheet hovers about 1mm over a "rail" of NdFeB supermagnets arranged in alternating polarity. Slightly pushing it or tilting the magnet rail makes the graphite move until it falls off the end of the rail. A really amazing toy.

 

Wonder if a model Maglev could be done this way. :)
