My second Japanese layout

The only reason for the tram line coming this far was to provide convenient access to the popular shrine on the island in the river. Up till now the true believers had to wade across due to lack of a bridge. Finally the big modeler in the sky has provided a stylish means of access. Wrapped card, wall filler and weathered with pastel chalk.

I've replaced the plastic water surface by a thicker sheet with more rigidity to get an improved reflection.

Did you do your water painting on the bottom of the plastic sheet or on something and then just plastic sheet on top?

I painted the surface of a piece of wood. That way if you mess up you can paint over it again with a more suitable colour. I recommend using at least 9mm ply though. I used hardboard and it has warped just slightly....

Good. So no reflection off the bottom side of the plex on top of the painted wood then.

After adding 10cm to the front of the baseboard and enlarging the right hand rice paddy, one of the local trainspotters managed to get these better shots.😀

 

Jeff, the transparent plastic I use has a thickness of approx. 1mm and there is no hint of a double reflection. It's the plastic Ikea uses for their cheap picture frames and works out a lot cheaper than buying real modelling plastic.🤓

Cool, yes 1mm shouldn’t do any reflections like that then. Good to note I’ll need to check ikea out as clear acrylic has gotten quite pricy these days!

I've finally completed sufficient scenery along the righthand scenic break to be able to shoot the shinkansen in this direction.

Farmer Takasaki isn't happy that the neighbour's dog is providing his daikon field with free fertiliser.

 

In the background a kiha 30 is standing in for the usual Kato kiha 47 which has been retired in anticipation of the arrival of a Tomix replacement. Is seem to be quite well loaded as it pulls into the station.  The station has just received a make over with an older platform design more suited for some of my older rolling stock.

Someone just started a new ramen restaurant in an old former workshop. It's on the outskirts of the town, but the proximity to the offices and workshop of the local tram and bus company should provide anough customers certainly at lunch time. The depot foreman is checking it out as we speak.
