Yeah I will look into those as the gap between the cars is huge and and unsightly.  Were you able to get some of the 2 car sets?

Not yet, although once I sell off a few of my other models I plan to get enough to make the full 18 car train.  Kinda crazy how for the cost of just the add on sets, I could get a full, powered set of Japanese prototype, with more cars too!

A new Amtrak train on the roster "Northeast Regional" - this will go under "lame excuse for buying a train", because I rode on it when I was in DC. :)

I'm going to sell all my trains and start over - I will only buy trains that I've ridden! NOT!  Although, I am planning on going to Japan for a few days in the summer and will ride as many of the trains that I do have now.

Very nice Junior!  And I think they built the ACS-64 over in Sacramento too, so its also a (briefly) local train!  If you have the modern amtrak California zephyr, they made their way east running just behind the locomotives on that train, a pretty interesting consist to model.

One of our members does this. He's traveled a lot in japan, Europe and North America so it's no wonder his large basement layout goes from Kyoto to philly, to Zurich!

Good thing I do have some contemporary trains so there's a chance I will be able to ride some of the trains I have now but will have to do some time traveling to ride many of the others.  And yes aside from Japan, I will have to make a trip out to Europe eventually.

A big reason I have not delved into Japanese Freight is because I have a nice little collection of North American Freight cars which I really like because of all the different rail companies and colors.  Though, they've been kind of ignored lately and I've been going back and forth about selling them. Tonight I created a spreadsheet and inventoried them so I know exactly what I have.  Here are my Micro-Trains assortment of 50' box cars.

Comparing my Kato 176-266 E8/9A from 20 years ago to today's Kato 176-5316 E9A.  There's a slight difference in the yellow, not sure if it's from age and the main difference between the 2 are the headlights, number boards and painted silver steps on the cab doors on the newer model.  Aside from those differences they are almost identical.

Just spotted another difference - the lettering and number on the newer model is outlined, didn't notice until I was putting them away.

Taking inventory of my Kato PA1 & PB1, E8/9 and F units.  Need to do this once in a while so I know I what I have on hand and don't buy duplicates. Most of these have a corresponding Kato Passenger Car Set. 🙂
