Yaizu Layout Production Log

Recommended Posts

I like finding production logs for Japanese layouts.  You will see some interesting photos, find out what worked and sometimes what didn't work so well and got replaced with a better idea.   So far there are 89 pages going back to May 2007, but even then he had at least half a layout.

When you go back as far as 2007 Tomytec really wasn't a factor.  The Town Collection first appeared in early 2004 but you had to take all 11 buildings at once, the Building Collection appeared in October 2006 with farmhouses and factories and the Visual Scene collection didn't arrive until October 2007. So the older parts of the layout are a combination of Greenmax details and kits, Tomix structures and Kato buildings and 23-421 Town Accessories.  There were a lot fewer options available.

It was this page of signboards applied to structures that caught my eye,

Nice! It was a different world before tomytec! I remeber the first series coming out and thinking wow these are spectacular and for a great price! Big step up over the clay series that bandai tried! Also the flood of vehicles that came forth! Sad the vehicle sets are now pretty limited. Those where the days when $4 got you three tomytec cars or a truck!

Nice to see progressions and folks hassles and now they got around them. Problem can be more interesting than something that works at times!

Being relatively new to this, I've picked up some older magazines (from around a decade ago), the qualitative/quantative differences in available scenic elements between now and then really stand out.
