Japan trip report

I am writing this post to thank all who have helped me plan my trip to japan. On our first day we made our way from Narita terminal 1 to Daiba where we stayed at a Hilton. Picking up a wifi was easy at the post office in Narita. We found an ATM which worked. Validating the pass went as explained. Staff in Japan are helpful. We were unable to make reservations beyond the first day at Narita. This too was anticipated.

We made our way to the hotel without 1 wrong turn. The only confusion was that the fare gate to the Yurikamome line at shimbasi was not working. The agent at Daiba assisted us when the fare gate blocked us from exiting the system.

At Tokyo station we got reservations made for two days of train travel. We booked 6 trains with window seats on the right side. The agent was efficient and helpful. She gave little envelopes for the reservations for each day. She looked up the train diagram for one train to ensure getting us window seats. She was able to read the train information from hyperdia that I had typed into a spreadsheet for my itinerary. When I praised her to her supervisor she blushed.

All of the answers to my posts and the posts of others really helped me understand how things work in Japan. I also really respect their consistency and doing thins the same way.

Thank you all.

The trip was outstanding.  We actually did will with the traveling.  We like riding trains, and alternating between bullet trains and limited express trains worked out well for us.  We enjoy looking at the different scenery outside  What was most amazing to us was the frequency of operation.  We stood at the station in Nagoya for 30 minutes and saw 3 or 4 Nozomi pass through plus a Kodama and then the Hikarii that we were waiting for.

Riding trams in Hiroshima, Kochi, and Nagasaki were highlights for us.  Kochi was a time travel trip in and of itself.  We got a few looks riding the tram, but people were polite.  In Nagasaki people offered assistance when they believed we did not understand how to pay for the tram rides.  Some creative sigh language and pointing at information on the internet on my phone helped them to understand that we were ok.

This is Day 3 when we went to Hiroshima to ride trams.  We traveled to Osaka, checked into the CY Shin-Osaka, and continued to Hiroshima to ride trams.  We returned back to Osaka.

This day 4 when we went from Osaka to Kochi.  The Limited Express ride to Kochi was a classic IMHO.  We enjoyed the long bridge over the sea and the mountain crossing.  The variety of scenery in such a short trip was enjoyable.  The Trams with wooden floors in Kochi were fun.

Day 5 we did  a circle trip that included a ride on the wide view Hilda.  https://goo.gl/photos/DcpJsHtUfVmWrdur5

Day 6   This was our trip to Nagasaki to ride trams.  https://goo.gl/photos/UbpYELKthFTM74TS7

Pictures are worth a thousand words.   We enjoyed the scenery and the helpfulness of the Japanese.  This the first trip of many, and I plan to return to se more tourist sights and ride trains.

If the D51 was in the day one pictures that was in the Akita train station. The kochi tram was definitely worth it. Thanks for the info on that.
