My Temporary Setups - Mostly Trains!

Jeff, I'd like for you to know that my n scale train consumption has decreased slightly but unfortunately I've been delving into HO again.  At least the Marklin phase has subsided a little bit.  The test will be when I'm in Japan and see if I can keep my credit card in my wallet. :)

But when you're in Japan you'll be able to snag all the deals in hobby shops you never see online! The only question is whether it's cheaper to send it to yourself or bring an extra suitcase!

Yes junior, go for the interesting deals at the hobby shops and the items you just can't order easily from the us! Might be worth the extra monster suitcase. Bring a duffle bag in your big suitcase and just toss all the dirty clothes in the duffle to have a big suitcase to fill with trains!

I'm not going to bring an extra bag but will pack lightly and if necessary dump some clothes to make room for trains.  I'll need some clothes to wrapped the trains in for protection.  Right now I'm debating whether to spend a day each riding trains, rail fanning and bargain or things I can't order hunting.  So many things to consider but still sticking to my mantra, nothing but trains! :)

Oh but there is so much more in japan! Food, shrines, temples, cities, scenery, culture! Lots and lots of fun! Do do a little more than trains, you will enjoy both!

If you're in the area already, the Imperial garden is just a block from Tokyo station, and well worth a visit!  Plus they have some very nice art exhibits  of some very rare art in the old guard buildings on the grounds.  Shouldn't take too much time away from trains to see.

A co-worker had a panoramic canvas print of Seattle and thought it would make for a Faux-Tokyo background and even had Mt. Rainier on it for a Faux-Mt. Fuji.  Yes, I know it's a little tacky. :)

Well I think it looks spot on mate, backscenes with high rise cityscapes are really hard to find,at least over here they are that's why I used mirrors, but when I do find a suitable one I like i ll simply fix it to the mirrors.

Needed to run trains - kept it really simple, was to lazy to put up the single catenaries that I recently bought so I was relegated to running DMU's and a Hybrid. :)

Coupler replacement project continues and this time with the Kato 0-2000 16 car set.  I was rolling along until I got to the motor car and was perplexed in taking the body shell off and thanks to Kiha66 for a brief explanation and pictures to boot - rapido replacement is complete.  Can't wait to take it to the Crocket Ntrak Club and run it.

Nice job Junior, glad I could help!  We'll have to run them both together when I get back in the area, maybe at Los Altos train days this fall.

Playing with my new Kato crossing gates.  Simulating a 7 track crossing, I wanted to do 8 tracks but missing one extra piece.

Ding, ding, ding, ding.......

Very interesting! Very busy crossing indeed!

just curious, do all these trains really come together in a crossing like this in real life?   :P

Not those precise trains, but you could make a start with the NEX and Keihin-Tohoku one at recreating a scene on the Tokaido line north of Yokohama.

I at least made sure that all the trains are JR East. :)

There was a thread that had a rail crossing that was similar which I was depicting.

Wow, those new crossing gates look great Junior!  I'll actually have an extra track when mine comes in a few weeks, you are welcome to have it!  Maybe we can try to do a 8 track loop with our combined unitrack sometime.

Thanks Sam, I actually have enough track but missing that piece that goes in between the tracks.

Running some Trolleys with DCC and as my usual style, plug and play with the NCE Power Cab.
