you can't cash a travellers check a narita airport.  to paraphase the simpsons, however, i think you can do so at idlewild airport if you catch the autogyro to siam.

I guess the concept of the $20 bill just didn't catch on... I remember them on the 2004 trip, easy for us amuricuns as the 20 seems to rule in our thinking so much with currency.

 

Youngins here still see the old $2 sometimes at shops and think its a fake.

You most certainly can cash t/c at Narita, just that not all the financial institutions there do it.  The Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ branches all provide t/c cashing services.

My grandfather always kept a few Susan B Anthony dollars in his pocket and liked to bedevil grocery store cashiers with them, who often thought he was trying to shortchange them with quarters.
