Noritetsu trip

Recommended Posts

In a few days, I will leave Europe for my 12th visit to Japan. Wakuwaku!

23 days with a 14 day Japan Rail Pass.  (Nine days will be spent at "home" with my parents-in-law and my wife's friends.)

As it has become popular (?), to share the itineraries in this forum, I would like to share my plans:

Day 1:

Kyoto - Kanazawa (Thunderbird)

Both Hokutetsu-lines in Kanazawa

Kanazawa - Nanao

Day 2:

Nanao - Anamizu - Nanao (Noto Railway)

Bus to Himi

Himi - Takaoka - Shin-Takaoka (JR Local)

Shin-Takaoka - Kanazawa - Nagano (Hokuriku Shinkansen)

Day 3:

Nagano - Matsumoto (LEX Shinano)

Alpico Railway

Matsumoto - Kobuchizawa (LEX Azusa)

Kobuchizawa - Nobeyama (1.5 h stop - the highest station in Japan, located at 1,345 m) -

Komoro (Koumi line - I like rural lines!)

Komoro - Ueda (Shinano line)

Day 4:

Ueda - Besshoonsen - Ueda (time for a bath in Besshoonsen)

Ueda- Karuizawa (Shinano line)

Karuizawa - Nagano (Shinkansen)

In Nagano, my wife will join me.

Nagano - Yudanaka (Nagano Railway)

Onsen!

Day 5:

No trains - just onsen and monkeys

Day 6:

Yudanaka - Nagano (Nagano Railway)

Nagano - Takasaki - Niigata (Shinkansen)

Niigata - Sado Island (Jetfoil)

Day 7,8,9:

Rental car on Sado Island

Day 10:

Sado Island - Niigata (Jetfoil)

Niigata - Joetsu-Myoko (LEX Shirayuki - E653)

My wife returns to Kyoto and I will go back on my noritetsu trip:

Joetsu-Myoko - Takasaki (Shinkansen)

Takasaki - Oyama (Ryomo line)

Day 11:

Oyama - Shimodate

Shimodate - Motegi (Moka Railway SL train)

Motegi - Moka - Shimodate (Moka Railway normal train)

Shimodate - Toride (Kanto Railway)

Toride - Ryugasaki - Kashiwa (Kanto Railway and JR Joban)

Day 12:

Kashiwa - Abiko - Narita - Choshi (JR Local lines)

Choshi Railway (Rice Cracker line)

Choshi - Naruto - Oami - Awa-kamogawa

Day 13:

Kamogawa Seaworld

Kamogawa - Tateyama - Soga JR Uchibo local trains

Day 14:

Soga - Ohara JR Sotobo line

Ohara - Goi:  Isumi and Kominato Railways - two private Railways. Kominato is well known for old trains.

Goi - Soga - Keiyo line - Tokyo

Tokyo - Kyoto (Shinkansen)

3066 km. 1322 km "old lines" (that I have ridden before) and 1744 km "new lines".

I will increase my "coverage" of the Japanese Rail Network from 47.4% to 54.1%. I will have ridden all lines in two more prefectures; Ishikawa and Yamanashi. I have so far done Nara, Oita and Okinawa. 42 left... Noritetsu is the Japanese term for such nerds...

Holy! 12th visit! Wow!

It's nice to see itineraries as it gives us ideas for our own ~

Your trip is truly Noritetsu! The ultimate Noritetsu fan comes to mind, forgot his name, but he was the one that made news by alighting at ALL stations in Japan ~

I like the Shinano. It's a nice ride, but yours is longer from Nagano to Matsumoto, mine was only from Nagoya.

Not a bad trip with a bit of everything in it.  I think I've done all the rail portions except the Kanto Railway, it's one of those things I never seem to be able to fit in.

I haven't worked out how many prefectures I've done all the lines in but I've coloured in all of Shikoku and Hokkaido, so that's five for a start.

Nice relaxing railway trip. Lots of local trains.

Have fun marking all the lines you been on!

I'm might start something similar, so far I've been on the most of the shinkansen except between okayama-Kokura as well as new extension to Kanazawa.

So envy your 12th trip! I will need to work hard to catch up with you! So far 5 trips, with 1 more hopefully coming up later this year.

With 3 more in the dream pipe.
