  1. For forumers living in Japan, just a note that this Friday's late night Tamori Club (TV Asahi 12:20am~) episode will feature Sotetsu and the upcoming run through operation with JR East. Appears to be a two part feature, so the second half episode likely will be next week.
  2. Of possible interest to members in Japan. Topics to be covered: the Hitachi IEP class 800 project team, steel wheel production, twilight express mizukaze and how bathtub water won't spill in a train, JR Freight and its on-time record of 94%. Next Saturday from 9pm on BS3 (satellite) domestic only. Repeat broadcast of the previous episode (originally broadcast last March) will be on same day from 11am. http://www.nhk.or.jp/docudocu/program/9999/1623466/index.html
  3. For forum members in Japan, next Saturday Sept. 17, 10-10:30 pm on TV Tokyo program [bi no Kyojintachi], the topic will be Shima Hideo's D51 and 0 series Shinkansen designs. As this is an art program, focus will be on the mechanical beauty of these rolling stock designs. http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/kyojin/
  4. Members in Japan may be interested in watching tonight's episode of the business program Cambria Kyuden on TV Tokyo (10pm Thu.) The topic is Isumi Tetsudo in Chiba Prefecture, which has been successful despite being a rural third sector line.
  5. For forum members in Japan, you may want to tune into the TV Tokyo program "Miraiseiki Jipangu", Monday 10pm. The program topic will be Japanese export trains. The one hour program will be divided into three parts: 1.Thailand- old blue train rolling stock and SL. Bangkok Metro rolling stock built by Jtrec. 2.UK- Class 395 and IEP. 3.USA- DC metro and KHI, New York subway interior design by Japanese. http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/zipangu/
  6. Forum members in Japan may want to set their media recorder of choice to catch the Sunday 7:30am program "Gachiri Monday" on TBS. The topic of this half hour TV program is JR East's involvement in the Hokuriku Shinkansen. The president of JR East will be interviewed. http://www.tbs.co.jp/gacchiri/

  8. Once again, for forum members in Japan, Fuji TV's variety info program Real Scope Hyper will have a one hour special about trains "behind the scenes", this time the limited express trains of the private railways, including Odakyu. Fuji TV Saturday May 10, 7pm~
  9. For forumers in Japan, of possible interest is tomorrow night's broadcast of the business documentary show "Gaia no yoake", on TV Tokyo from 10pm. The subjects will be an innovative bus company taking over a bankrupt bus service, and a profile of the Isumi Railway in Chiba Prefecture, which has managed to attract ridership and keep itself from getting shut down. These programs, being intended for "serious" audiences (TV Tokyo is owned by business newspaper Nihon Kezai Shimbun- the "WSJ of Japan"), tend to be more full of insight and substance than the variety specials typically broadcast on the bigger TV channels. Check it out. http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/gaia/
  10. Another one tonight, topic is shinkansen. This special is only one hour. Fuji TV 19:00~19.57.
  11. Heads up to forum members in Japan- tomorrow (Sat Nov.9) TV Asahi will broadcast a two hour special of their "Onegai Ranking Gold" quiz/information show- the topic will be the Shinkansen and buses (I assume Tokyo Municipal "Toei"). Oddly, the TV Asahi HP for this program shows no such episode information, but I saw the commercial for this program tonight, just before the Japan-Taiwan baseball game. 12. Once again, a two hour quiz/information show will air this evening (Saturday) on Fuji TV from 7pm. The subject will be shinkansen and subways. There should be a few good segments in it, if past episodes are considered- "behind the scenes" maintenance of E6 shinkansen trainsets, delivery of new Tokyo Metro rolling stock, etc. preview clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms7-iUsoolk&list=PLh4aJSJaObrZ0eMg4lpw_rgfvyInTHPKA *I viewed an interview with the producer of this program, and he mentioned a segment about the 20 year interval comprehensive inspection/maintenance of subway tunnels, which should be interesting and likely never been broadcast before.

The program is "[Onegai Ranking Gold]- Actually quite amazing Yamanote Line stations selected by railfans- 2 hour special" 18:56~20:54 on TV Asahi, Saturday Sept. 21 I figure 80+% of program content will be fluff, but there will be a segment on rolling stock maintenance, and a human interest story about a female driver.
  15. For forum members in Japan, Fuji TV will be airing a two hour special tonight (July 6, 7pm~) profiling the Yamanote Line. It is Fuji TV's information program "Real Scope Hyper": http://www.fujitv.co.jp/b_hp/realscope/index.html
