    Dhaka Metro Rail opens to public

    Dec. 29 open to public. 1500v DC, 1435mm gauge. Rolling stock built by KHI in Kobe.
  2. Recent delivery of the kiha 261 trainset "Hamanasu" from KHI Kobe works to the JR Hokkaido Naebo Depot/Works. First scene is somewhere on the Hokuriku Main Line, rainy season haulage by Toyama-based EF510 through the rice fields. Next is a (delayed) arrival Saturday AM in the Sapporo area. First scene at Chitose, then the Toyohira River crossing, and at Naebo rolling stock works.

  6. Yesterday a joint statement of four railways was issued announcing the intention of starting reserved seat service using the to-be-delivered Seibu 40000 series. Starting from Spring 2017, this service will operate weekends and holidays between Chichibu and Yokohama Chukagai (for sightseers), and weekdays, on a Seibu Ikebukuro Line-Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line routing (for commuters).   7. Sanyo Dentetsu will introduce new rolling stock within the fiscal year, the first new units in 15 years. Designated the 6000 series, the aluminum-bodied rolling stock will consist of a total of 6 units, in 3 two-car formations. They will be capable of being used on both local services and incorporated in direct limited express rakes. The carriages will be 18.9m long, equipped with VVVF inverters, LED lighting, fully enclosed PMSM motors, and interestingly, a braking system that prevents flats on wheelsets.   9. Been awhile since this proposed trainset has last been in the news. With the PM's U.S. visit, it looks like this model will be officially offered for the California project. Apparently tender bids by the various manufacturers will occur sometime this year.   10. It will be designated the 500 series. Eight 3 car sets will be built by KHI. Features include full active suspension on all cars and permanent magnet synchronous motors. The three car sets will be designed to couple/uncouple en route with other three car sets to expand/shrink consists depending on passenger demand and service patterns. Introduction scheduled for spring 2017.   11. Sapporo City Transportation Bureau announced Oct. 31 that new rolling stock for the Toho Line, designated the 9000 series, will begin operation next year in April. The new sets will begin to be delivered to the Toho Line depot next month from KHI Hyogo. A total of 80 cars, arranged in 4 car sets of 20, will be delivered by FY2016. The new units will be fitted for ATO/DOO, in conjunction with platform door installation on the Toho Line. They will be equipped with VVVF inverters and interior LED lighting. Bogies and portions of the couplers from current Toho Line stock will be reused on the new units to reduce costs. In addition to emergency escape ladders fitted on the cab car ends, ladders will also be fitted to the middle cars.
