  1. Began last week. Revenue service begins this autumn. NTV new report:
  2. Last month the MLIT released a list of 58 railway road crossings which were top candidates for improvement (or elimination via grade separation). Keio Railway led the list with 25 railway crossings that posed safety risks and/or congestion choke points. Second on the list was JR Kyushu, with 6 locations. Third was JR Tokai, with 5 locations. The remaining railways had three or less candidate locations. It must be noted that the Keio Railway crossings in question will be eliminated with the completion of the (currently under construction) elevation of the Keio Main Line between Sasazuka and Sengawa (7.2km). http://toyokeizai.net/articles/-/118244 Actual list of those crossings, from the MLIT: http://www.mlit.go.jp/common/001126608.pdf
  3. already discussed here: http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/3823-jr-kyushu-to-operate-luxury-cruise-train-services http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/6148-jr-kyushu-cruise-train-seven-stars http://www.jnsforum.com/community/topic/6132-new-jr-kyushu-excursion-train here are the first images I've seen: http://rail-uploader.khz-net.com/index.php?id=1102969 The artist's renderings show it in a maroon color, so I guess this is just a primer coat. As Bikkuri mentioned, it has to be lighter than a freight-use JRF DF200, I'll be interested to see where the weight savings come from. Or do these have cement weights that can just be removed?
  4. Company video featuring the manufacture of rolling stock at the Kasado Plant:
  5. Train stopped just 93m from the other train. https://youtube.com/watch?v=_CGRKMsyakc *will post more later, gotta turn in as its late
  6. JR Kyushu has announced a new EMU, it will replace the 103s still used in and around Fukuoka. The 305 series will be used on interlining services operated with the Fukuoka Muncipal Subway on the Airport Line. Six 6-car sets will enter service in February and March 2015. Each set has a rated capacity of 851 people; 291 seated and 560 standing. JR Kyushu has a lot of nice designs, this looks a lot like the existing 817 series, a classy commuter design. Artists rendering on the second page of the pdf: http://www13.jrkyushu.co.jp/newsreleaseweb.nsf/9dd28b8cb8f46cee49256a7d0030d2e6/c90d2fe29aa67f5e49257d260039d6cf/$FILE/%E5%B9%B3%E6%88%9027%E5%B9%B4%E5%88%9D%E3%80%81%E7%AD%91%E8%82%A5%E7%B7%9A%E3%81%AB%E3%83%90%E3%83%AA%E3%82%A2%E3%83%95%E3%83%AA%E3%83%BC%E3%83%BB%E5%BF%AB%E9%81%A9%E6%80%A7%E3%83%BB%E7%92%B0%E5%A2%83%E6%80%A7%E8%83%BD%E3%82%92%E8%BF%BD%E6%B1%82%E3%81%97%E3%81%9F%E6%96%B0%E5%9E%8B%E8%BB%8A%E4%B8%A1%E3%82%92%E6%8A%95%E5%85%A5%E3%81%97%E3%81%BE%E3%81%99.pdf
  7. Posted by Christopher Hood to the jtrains mailing list, this is surprising: http://newsonjapan.com/html/newsdesk/article/111021.php JR Kyushu wants to eliminate staff at even its largest stations, except shinkansen stations, by next year. The article says that their rail operations took a 15.6 trillion yen loss last year. I really can't see major stations totally unmanned. Maybe the intention is to change to contract employees rather than salaried JR Kyushu seishain?
  8. Posted this on another forum, thought some here may be interested. Testing within the confines of the Kumamoto General Rolling Stock Depot. There will be an official press debut on the 19th of this month.
  9. Once again, for forum members in Japan, TV Tokyo's program "Solomon Ryu" will have a program documenting JR Kyushu's preparations for their "7 Stars" luxury rail service. TV Tokyo, Sun, Sept. 29, 10:14pm~ preview of program: http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/solomon/
