Someone caught an E653 with a new paint job at Koriyama Depot. Looks good: http://ameblo.jp/sen-kori-shin/entry-11539947539.html I'd like to see the E651s get some fresh paint, but I wonder if those aren't too old and will just be kept for real shortages until they're scrapped altogether.

E6 formation moved from factory to JR East on conventional lines
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: Pictures & Videos
There are other such videos of 1435mm rolling stock being transported on temporary 1067mm trucks (Keisei Skyliner AE and some subway rolling stock comes to mind), but it's pretty rare, and it's very interesting to see this train behind a DE10 and EF65. In the description, ayokoi (uploader of the first video) says that up to now, transport had been by sea to Sendai. This is set Z9 being transported from Kawasaki's Hyogo Works to JR East's Akita Shinkansen Depot. Keio Hashimoto in 1990, JNR Sagami Line in 1984
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: Pictures & Videos
Uploader of these is, I assume, the Sagamihara municipal government. This is their 'town info' kind of thing from April 15, 1990. Coverage of the then-new Hashimoto Station starts at 2:33. Waiting rooms were non-smoking from the beginning, seems quite forward-thinking to me. In another episode of this, from November 1984, locations along the then-JNR, then-unelectrified Sagami Line are featured. At the time, the line had KIHA 35s, tablet safeworking, and apparently some manual and spring switches.- 2 replies

JR East preserving 200 series Shinkansen end car in Niigata
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
JR East has moved a 200 series end car from Niigata Shinkansen Depot to the Niitsu Railway Museum in the Akiha ward of Niigata City. It may be 221-1510, but I'm not sure. Wikipedia says that the existing 200 series cab section outside of the building is actually a mockup. JR East - Tsugaru Line, Shin-Aomori to Mimmaya
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: Pictures & Videos
For anyone interested in modelling rural northern Honshu, this is a must see. I recommend it for everyone else as well :). This is a 3-video series by YT uploader karibajct. JR East's hybrid HB-E300 trains entered into service in October 2010 in two general locations: Aomori and Yamagata in far northwestern Honshu, and Nagano, Yamanashi, and Niigata, the Koshinetsu region roughly in northern central Honshu. There are only 10 cars in 4 trainsets, three 2-car sets and one 4-car set. In these videos we see a 2-car Resort Asunaro set on the Resort Asunaro Tappi service. Starting at Shin-Aomori, the train goes to Aomori and then reverses to take the Tsugaru Line (not the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line) to Mimmaya. Karibajct made these recordings on April 13, 2013, and there's still snow on the ground in some places. Shin-Aomori to Shin-Aburakawa - 8:50 arrives at Aomori, 14:10 passes Aomori Depot, there are some E751 intermediate cars and some Kanto-area rolling stock stored here. Shin-Aburakawa junction to Kanita - some Tsugaru Shamisen around 13:50 Kanita to Mimmura - the Tsugaru and Tsugaru Kaikyo lines split at Shin-Nakaoguni junction at 7:45, and the Hokkaido Shinkansen is under construction at 10:10. Lonely, lonely Mimmura Station is at 33:55. new green car for SL Ban'etsu Monogatari
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: News & General Discussion
JR East's factory at Niitsu has turned out a green car for use with the SL Ban'etsu Monogatari steam excursion. Its first run will be this Saturday April 6. It is based on SUHAFU 12-102. They've also got a pdf available http://www.jrniigata.co.jp/press/20130124sl4-9-g.pdf with some artist's renderings of the interior. I'm looking forward to some photos and video of the real thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Banetsu_Monogatari_SuRoFu_12_102_Niigata_20130406.jpg -
